Normothermic organ perfusion (EVP) systems not only provide a physiological environment that preserves donor organ function outside the body but may also serve as platforms for organ modification via gene therapy. In this study, we demonstrated that a rationally designed muscle-tropic recombinant AAV, AAV-SLB101, delivered to the donor heart during brief normothermic EVP achieves durable cardiac transgene expression out to 90 and 120 days post-transplant in a porcine preclinical model. Moreover, transgene expression was detectable as early as 48 h post-transplant.

Background: The study investigates the combined efficacy of subacromial hyaluronic acid (HA) injections and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) in managing rotator cuff lesions without complete tears.

Materials And Methods: Eligible patients were randomized into three groups: three HA injections combined with two sham ESWT (HA), three HA injections combined with one ESWT and one sham ESWT (HA + 1 ESWT), or three HA injections combined with two ESWT (HA + 2 ESWT) with an allocation ratio of 1:1:1. Background: Current adult cardiac surgery guidelines recommend against the routine use of prophylactic intravenous corticosteroids during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) due to concerns about myocardial injury, despite their potential to reduce postoperative atrial fibrillation. Traditionally, a high dose of 1,000 mg of methylprednisolone was used to attenuate the inflammatory response associated with CPB. Our institution aligned with guideline recommendations and gradually reduced methylprednisolone dosages; thus, we reevaluated the impact on postoperative clinical outcomes.

The role of secretion chaperone-regulated virulence proteins in the pathogenesis of infective endocarditis (IE) induced by viridans streptococci such as is unclear. In this study, we investigated the contribution of the foldase protein PrsA, a putative parvulin-type peptidyl-prolyl isomerase, to the pathogenesis of -induced IE. Formation of intravenous catheter-related thrombosis leads to central venous stenosis in patients requiring renal replacement therapy or chemotherapy infusion, yet the triggers or mechanisms remain unclear, especially in patients without symptoms of infection. In this study, we found that neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) could be detected in the fibrin sheaths from dialysis patients without clinical manifestations of infection. Intimal sarcomas simultaneously involving the right atrium and the inferior vena cava (IVC) are rare. We report an advanced cardiac intimal sarcoma in the right atrium of a 19-year-old man that was complicated by tumor-related IVC thrombosis. We initially performed partial tumor resection and vena cava thrombectomy to resolve the circulatory obstruction, because complete resection was difficult due to the invading malignancy and an unclear margin.
