Recognition of "non-self" nucleic acids, including cytoplasmic dsDNA, dsRNA, or mRNAs lacking proper 5' cap structures, is critical for the innate immune response to viruses. Here, we demonstrate that short 5' untranslated regions (UTRs), a characteristic of many viral mRNAs, can also serve as a molecular pattern for innate immune recognition via the interferon-induced proteins IFIT2 and IFIT3. The IFIT2-IFIT3 heterodimer, formed through an intricate domain swap structure resolved by cryo-EM, mediates viral mRNA 5' end recognition, translation inhibition, and ultimately antiviral activity.

Article Synopsis
  • * It often manifests in specific forms such as brachioradial pruritus in the forearms, notalgia paresthetica in the upper back, and anogenital itch, which can be related to spine problems.
  • * Treatment may involve topical remedies or systemic medications, but currently, there are no FDA-approved options specifically for neuropathic itch, making it essential to understand its neural causes for effective management.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compared the effectiveness of two treatment methods for relieving itch in patients with brachioradial pruritus: pregabalin alone vs. pregabalin combined with ketamine, amitriptyline, and lidocaine cream.
  • Both treatment regimens showed significant reduction in itch scores, but there was no notable difference in effectiveness between the two groups.
  • Some patients reported mild side effects, suggesting a need for personalized treatment plans, and further research is recommended for determining the best approaches to manage this condition.

Background Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many professional sports leagues such as the National Hockey League (NHL) made significant changes to their schedules and operating procedures. Changes included a modified 2019-2020 playoff format, the removal of the 2020-2021 preseason, and condensed game schedules. Though these modifications were made in an effort to protect players from COVID-19, they resulted in decreased training time and preparation.

Background: Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated race as a predictor of worse oncological outcomes. To better understand the effect of race on oncological outcomes, we utilized the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to determine what treatment courses are provided to minority patients and how this impacts survival.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review of bone and soft tissue sarcoma cases was performed using the SEER database for a minimum 5-year survival rate (SR) using Kaplan-Meier curves.

Background: Patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) has been suggested to reduce improper component positioning, though the effectiveness of PSI in total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the radiographic parameters and clinical outcomes comparing PSI and standard instrumentation (SI).

Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with the 2020 PRISMA statement and was registered on PROSPERO.
