Background: Pose estimation (PE) has the promise to measure pediatric movement from a video recording. The purpose of this study was to quantify the accuracy of a PE model to detect arm and leg movements in 3-month-old infants with and without (TD, for typical development) complex congenital heart disease (CCHD).

Introduction: Patients following the Fontan procedure have a physiology that results in prolonged pleural effusion, often delaying hospital discharge. The hospital length of stay (LOS) of patients following the Fontan procedure at our institution was significantly longer than the Society of Thoracic Surgery benchmark. This quality improvement project aimed to decrease hospital LOS in patients following the Fontan procedure from a baseline of 23 days to 7 days by January 1, 2021, and sustain indefinitely.

Infants with critical congenital heart defects (CCHD) are at high risk for feeding challenges and neurodevelopmental delays; however, few interventions promoting the neurodevelopmental progression of feeding have been studied with this population. Contingent mother's voice has been successfully used as positive reinforcement for non-nutritive suck (NNS) in studies with preterm infants, leading to improved weight gain and more rapid cessation of tube feedings; however, this type of intervention has not been studied in infants with CCHD. This study aimed to determine whether an NNS-training protocol using the mother's voice as positive reinforcement and validated in preterm infants could improve oral feeding outcomes in hospitalized infants with CCHD undergoing cardiac surgical procedures.

Objectives: Patients with single-ventricle physiology have a significant risk of cardiorespiratory deterioration between their first- and second-stage palliation surgeries. Detection of deterioration episodes may allow for early intervention and improved outcomes.

Hemorrhagic and thrombotic complications, including intracranial hemorrhage, embolic stroke, surgical bleeding, and circuit thrombosis, are common during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), occurring in up to 50% of patients. These complications have a significant impact on morbidity and mortality. Objective: To identify a cause for clinical deterioration, examine resuscitation efforts, and identify and correct system issues (thus improving outcomes) via a multidisciplinary code-review process soon after cardiopulmonary arrest.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of code events in a tertiary pediatric heart center from September 2010 to December 2013 and review of surgical-cardiac data from January 2010 to December 2013.

Objectives: The many advantages of early tracheal extubation following congenital cardiac surgery in young infants and children are now widely recognized. Benefits include avoiding the morbidity associated with prolonged intubation and the consequences of sedation and positive pressure ventilation in the setting of altered cardiopulmonary physiology. Background: Postoperative cardiovascular surgical site infections are preventable events that may lead to increased morbidity, mortality, and health care costs.

Objective: To improve surgical wound surveillance and reduce the incidence of surgical site infections.

Methods: An institutional review of surgical site infections led to implementation of 8 surveillance and process measures: appropriate preparation the night before surgery and the day of surgery, use of appropriate preparation solution in the operating room, appropriate timing of preoperative antibiotic administration, placement of a photograph of the surgical site in the patient's chart at discharge, sending a photograph of the surgical site to the patient's primary care physician, 30-day follow-up of the surgical site by an advanced nurse practitioner, and placing a photograph of the surgical site obtained on postoperative day 30 in the patient's chart.

Neonates with single-ventricle physiology are at increased risk of developing gastrointestinal morbidities. Feeding protocols in this patient population have been shown to decrease feeding complications after the Norwood procedure, but no data exist to determine the effectiveness of a feeding protocol in patients undergoing the hybrid procedure. Goal of this study was to examine the impact of a standardized feeding protocol on the incidence of overall postoperative gastrointestinal morbidity after the hybrid procedure.
