Adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with type 1 diabetes are associated with multiple alterations in the vaginal microbiome.

Aims/hypothesis: The vaginal microbiome has been linked to adverse pregnancy outcomes, which are markedly increased in women with type 1 diabetes. To investigate this relationship, we profiled the vaginal microbiome in pregnant women with and without type 1 diabetes, and in relation to pre-term birth (PTB) and pre-eclampsia (PE) in women with type 1 diabetes.

Methods: Bacterial and fungal microbiomes were analysed by 16S rRNA gene and internal transcribed spacer 1 sequencing, respectively, in the third trimester of 310 pregnancies (160 with type 1 diabetes) for bacteria, and 147 pregnancies (70 with type 1 diabetes) for fungi.

Islet Autoantibody Screening Throughout Australia Using In-Home Blood Spot Sampling: 2-Year Outcomes of Type1Screen.

Objective: Type1Screen offers islet autoantibody testing to Australians with a family history of type 1 diabetes (T1D) with the dual aims of preventing diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and enabling use of disease-modifying therapy. We describe screening and monitoring outcomes 2 years after implementing in-home capillary blood spot sampling.

Research Design And Methods: Data from 2,064 participants who registered between July 2022 and June 2024 were analyzed: 1,507 and 557 chose blood spot and venipuncture screening respectively.

Introduction: The Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) Study is an ongoing Australian prospective cohort study investigating how modifiable prenatal and early-life exposures drive the development of islet autoimmunity and type 1 diabetes (T1D) in children. In this profile, we describe the cohort's parental demographics, maternal and neonatal outcomes and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes.

Research Design And Methods: Inclusion criteria were an unborn child, or infant aged less than 6 months, with a first-degree relative (FDR) with T1D.

A Multi-Purpose Realistic Haze Benchmark With Quantifiable Haze Levels and Ground Truth.

Imagery collected from outdoor visual environments is often degraded due to the presence of dense smoke or haze. A key challenge for research in scene understanding in these degraded visual environments (DVE) is the lack of representative benchmark datasets. These datasets are required to evaluate state-of-the-art object recognition and other computer vision algorithms in degraded settings.

Background: We sought research experiences of caregivers and their children were enrolled in the Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) study.

Methods: ENDIA is a pregnancy-birth cohort investigating early-life causes of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Surveys were sent to 1090 families between June 2021 and March 2022 with a median participation of >5 years.

The Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) pregnancy-birth cohort investigates the developmental origins of type 1 diabetes (T1D), with recruitment between 2013 and 2019. ENDIA is the first study in the world with comprehensive data and biospecimen collection during pregnancy, at birth and through childhood from at-risk children who have a first-degree relative with T1D. Environmental exposures are thought to drive the progression to clinical T1D, with pancreatic islet autoimmunity (IA) developing in genetically susceptible individuals.

Background Recent evidence indicates a mere 8% of new graduate RNs are prepared to make entry-level clinical judgments. Residency programs, designed to overcome the academic-practice gap, lack universal guidelines for content, delivery, structure, and consistent assessment of practice readiness prior to independent practice. Method Virtual simulation to overcome practice gaps, with pre- and post-assessment of practice readiness prior to independent practice, was implemented in an existing nurse residency program.

A Long-Term Evaluation of Facebook for Recruitment and Retention in the ENDIA Type 1 Diabetes Pregnancy-Birth Cohort Study.

Background: The Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) study is an Australia-wide pregnancy-birth cohort study following children who have a first-degree relative with type 1 diabetes (ACTRN1261300794707). A dedicated ENDIA Facebook page was established in 2013 with the aim of enhancing recruitment and supporting participant retention through dissemination of study information. To measure the impact of Facebook, we evaluated the sources of referral to the study, cohort demographics, and withdrawal rates.

Women with type 1 diabetes exhibit a progressive increase in gut Saccharomyces cerevisiae in pregnancy associated with evidence of gut inflammation.

Aims: Studies of the gut microbiome have focused on its bacterial composition. We aimed to characterize the gut fungal microbiome (mycobiome) across pregnancy in women with and without type 1 diabetes.

Methods: Faecal samples (n = 162) were collected from 70 pregnant women (45 with and 25 without type 1 diabetes) across all trimesters.

Case Summary: A 3-year-old male neutered domestic shorthair cat presented for further investigation of a swollen left eyelid and a hard, non-painful bony swelling over the left frontal sinus. Physical examination revealed no nasal discharge or airflow through the left nostril. A CT of the head revealed a left frontal sinus obstruction with expansile remodelling and osteolucency.

Sustaining Nursing Grand Rounds Through Interdisciplinary Teamwork and Interorganizational Partnership.

: In 2017, Navy Nurse Corps executives launched a new nursing professional practice model that promotes operational readiness, professional development, and transformational leadership. This directive prompted nursing leadership at Naval Hospital Jacksonville (NH JAX) to conduct a needs assessment survey to determine what kind of educational initiative nursing staff members would most welcome in support of the goals of the new practice model. Survey respondents favored case studies presented in a nursing grand rounds format.
