Introduction: The Minimal Clinically Important Change (MCIC) is used in conjunction with Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) to determine the clinical relevance of changes in health status. MCIC measures a change within the same person or group over time. This study aims to evaluate the variability in computing MCIC for the Core Outcome Measure Index (COMI) using different methods.

The objective of the study was to assess chronotype, sleep hygiene, and sleep characteristics of Italian athletes in order to identify differences among sport disciplines (team- vs individual-sports), level of competition (Elite vs Non-Elite) and sexes. Moreover, correlations between chronotype, sleep hygiene and sleep quality were evaluated. Two hundred eighty Italian athletes (Females:113; Males:167) participated in the study.

Methods: A database of 429 patients subjected to lumbar MRI, radiographs and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry within 6 months was created from an institutional database. Several machine learning models were trained and tested (373 patients for training, 86 for testing) with the following objectives: (1) direct estimation of the vertebral bone mineral density; (2) classification of T-score lower than - 1 or (3) lower than - 2.

Objective: The objective of the analysis presented is to assess the efficacy of a fast-track pathway for elective hip and knee arthroplasty, compared to the traditional approach, adopted within a research hospital located in Milan (Italy), in terms of length of stay reduction and related direct medical costs.
Methods: A monocentric observational retrospective study was implemented considering adult subjects who underwent elective primary total hip or knee replacement, with a diagnosis of primary or secondary osteoarthritis. Exclusion criteria were subjects admitted via emergency department, subjects undergoing knee or hip replacement because of fractures or prosthesis revision.

Background: The aims of this cross-sectional study were to (a) assess actigraphy-based sleep parameters (total sample and gender differences), (b) assess differences in morphological parameters and physical function between short- versus normal-sleepers and poor- versus good-sleepers, and (c) assess the possible correlations between sleep variables and morphological and physical function parameters in older subjects.
Methods: This study enrolled 42 healthy older participants (60-80 years). Participants completed the following clinical evaluations: (1) whole-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry to assess the appendicular skeletal muscle mass index; (2) magnetic resonance imaging acquisition to determine the cross-sectional muscle area of thigh muscles and intermuscular adipose tissue; (3) risk of fall assessment through the mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test; (4) strength assessment: (a) chair stand test and (b) handgrip strength test; (5) sleep monitoring by actigraphy to assess total sleep time, sleep efficiency, wake after sleep onset, sleep latency, fragmentation index, mobile time, and subjective sleep quality.

Background: Skeletal muscle mass wasting almost invariably accompanies bone loss in elderly, and the coexistence of these two conditions depends on the tight endocrine crosstalk existing between the two organs, other than the biomechanical coupling. Since the current diagnostics limitation in this field, and given the progressive population aging, more effective tools are needed. The aim of this study was to identify circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) as potential biomarkers for muscle mass wasting in post-menopausal osteoporotic women.

This study aimed to assess lumbar spine muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) and fat infiltration (FI) in a large cohort of subjects with back disorders through a validated deep learning model.
Methods: T2 axial MRI images of 4434 patients (n = 2609 females, n = 1825 males; mean age: 56.
Background: The increasing prevalence of knee osteoarthritis and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) impose a significant socioeconomic burden in developed and developing countries. Prehabilitation (rehabilitation in the weeks immediately before surgery) may be crucial to prepare patients for surgery improving outcomes and reducing assistance costs. Moreover, considering the progress of telemedicine, candidates for TKA could potentially benefit from a tele-prehabilitation programme.

Purpose: Few data are available on sleep characteristics of elite track-and-field athletes. Our study aimed to assess (1) differences in sleep between sexes and among different track-and-field disciplines, (2) the effect of individualized sleep-hygiene strategies on athletes' sleep parameters, and (3) daytime nap characteristics in track-and-field athletes.
Methods: Sleep characteristics of 16 elite Olympic-level track-and-field athletes (male: n = 8; female: n = 8) were assessed during the preseason period, at baseline (T0), and during the in-season period, after the adoption of individualized sleep-hygiene strategies (T1).
Background: Humans should sleep for about a third of their lifetime and the choice of the mattress is very important from a quality-of-life perspective. Therefore, the primary aim of this study was to assess the changes of lumbar angles, evaluated in a supine position using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), on a mattress versus a rigid surface.
Methods: Twenty healthy subjects (10 females, 10 males), aged 32.
Purpose: The aim of this observational cohort study was to assess actigraphy-based sleep characteristics and pain scores in patients undergoing knee or hip joint replacement and hospitalized for ten days after surgery.
Methods: N=20 subjects (mean age: 64.0±10.

Background: To compare electrical impedance myography (EIM) and MRI in assessing lumbar skeletal muscle composition.
Methods: One hundred forty-one patients (78 females, mean age 57 ± 19 years) were prospectively enrolled and underwent lumbar spine MRI, EIM with Skulpt®, and clinical evaluation including the questionnaire SARC-F. MRIs were reviewed to assess the Goutallier score of paravertebral muscles at L3 level and to calculate the cross sectional area (CSA) of both psoas, quadratus lumborum, erector spinae, and multifidus muscles on a single axial slice at L3 level, in order to calculate the skeletal muscle index (SMI=CSA/height).

We evaluated the correlation of electrical impedance myography (EIM) measurements of knee muscles composition using Skulpt ChiselTM with MRI data retrieved from muscles segmentation. A total of 140 patients (71 females, 52 ± 21 years) underwent knee MRI, EIM with Skulpt®, and clinical evaluation (SARC-F questionnaire). MRIs were reviewed to assess the cross-sectional area (CSA) and skeletal muscle index (SMI = CSA/height2) of vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, biceps, semimembranosus, and sartorius.
