Unlabelled: Early Seedling Vigor (ESV) is a critical trait for direct-seeded rice (DSR), as it promotes rapid seedling establishment and effective weed suppression. Enhancing ESV is therefore essential for developing varieties adapted to DSR conditions. This study aimed to accelerate genetic gain for ESV traits through Marker-Assisted Pedigree Selection (MAPS) by leveraging reported quantitative trait loci (QTLs).

Unlabelled: The genetic trade-offs among complex traits are often witnessed in rice, however, very little is known about the contributing genes and mechanisms to exploit in breeding programmes. Here, we aimed to understand the genetic trade-offs among disease resistance, quality, and yield traits employing genome-wide association mapping. In all, 78 common marker-trait associations (MTAs) were identified for the targeted traits.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers created a new way to quickly find important genes that affect rice growth and yield.
  • They used data from various sources to identify 206 candidate genes related to 99 traits that help rice grow better.
  • By testing these genes in different types of rice plants, they found two that could significantly impact grain length and panicle length, which means they might help produce more rice.
