A longitudinal study of C1q and anti-C1q autoantibodies in homologous and heterologous pregnancies for predicting pre-eclampsia.

C1q, the recognition molecule of the classical pathway of the complement system, plays a central role in pregnancy. Lack of C1q is characterized by poor trophoblast invasion and pregnancy failure. C1q can be the target of an antibody response: anti-C1q autoantibodies (anti-C1q) are present in several infectious and autoimmune diseases.

Phosphoproteins Involved in the Inhibition of Apoptosis and in Cell Survival in the Leiomyoma.

Uterine leiomyomas are benign smooth muscle cell tumors originating from the myometrium. In this study we focus on leiomyoma and normal myometrium phosphoproteome, to identify differentially phosphorylated proteins involved in tumorigenic signaling pathways, and in anti-apoptotic processes and cell survival. We obtained paired tissue samples of seven leiomyomas and adjacent myometria and analyzed the phosphoproteome by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) combined with immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC) and Pro-Q Diamond phosphoprotein gel stain.

Management of endometrial, ovarian and cervical cancer in the elderly: current approach to a challenging condition.

Purpose: Gynaecological cancer management in older people represents a current challenge. Therefore, in the present paper, we aimed to gather all the evidence reported in the literature concerning gynecological cancers in the elderly, illustrating the state of art and the future perspectives.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, IBECS, BIOSIS, Web of Science, SCOPUS and Grey literature (Google Scholar; British Library) from January 1952 to May 2017, using the terms "ovarian cancer", "endometrial cancer", "cervical cancer", "gynecological cancers" combined with 'elderly', 'cancer', 'clinical trial' and 'geriatric assessment'.

The Role of Oxidative Stress and Membrane Transport Systems during Endometriosis: A Fresh Look at a Busy Corner.

Endometriosis is a condition characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity, leading to a chronic inflammatory reaction. It is one of the most widespread gynecological diseases with a 10-15% prevalence in the general female population, rising up to 30-45% in patients with infertility. Although it was first described in 1860, its etiology and pathogenesis are still unclear.

A proteomic approach for the identification of biomarkers in endometrial cancer uterine aspirate.

Endometrial cancer arises from the endometrium. It has a slow progression and a reported survival rate of 75%. The identification of soluble biomarkers in the uterine aspirate may be very useful for its early diagnosis.
