Recent advances in imaging technology and increased options of pharmaceutical therapy require that guidelines on the diagnostic criteria and treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) be updated at regular intervals. These guidelines aim to standardize the management of neovascular AMD based on the latest understanding of its pathophysiology, advancements in diagnostic imaging modalities, and treatment options. The key updates include: (1) a revision of terminology and stage classification, adopting the AMD classifications of atrophic and neovascular, and adding end-stage AMD to the existing early, intermediate, and late stages; (2) the inclusion of pachychoroid in addition to drusen in the initial pathophysiology and pathogenic background; (3) diagnostic criteria defined by the presence of macular neovascularization based on multimodal imaging, including optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography; (4) assessment of disease activity based on OCT; and (5) treatment guidance, including prophylaxis and low vision care as well as loading and maintenance phases by use of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy and adjunctive therapies.

Purpose: To evaluate the foveal granular reflexes (Jampol dots) in macula with multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) and describe the pathophysiology.

Methods: Eighteen eyes of 18 MEWDS cases (4 male,14 female) were studied. We evaluated the presence and location of Jampol dots and classified them into micro and fused types based on the fundus appearance, and mixed type was included in the fused type.

This paper proposes an automatic method to identify important positions and their color features in retinal fundus images for gender classification using deep learning. The proposed method consists of MALCC (Model Analysis by Local Color Characteristics) and U-test. By partitioning each YCbCr image in the dataset into blocks and randomly masking them, the deep learning model predicts gender probabilities.

Background: To report a case of intraocular inflammation (IOI) after intravitreal injection of aflibercept 8 mg for treatment-refractory neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Case Presentation: An 80-year-old man with diabetes mellitus had neovascular age-related macular degeneration refractory to treatment with aflibercept 2 mg. Despite ten injections of faricimab, the exudation remained, and we switched to brolucizumab, which resulted in a mild IOI.

Purpose: The objective of this study is to estimate the area of the Foveal Avascular Zone (FAZ) from B-scan OCT images using machine learning algorithms.

Methods: We developed machine learning models to predict the FAZ area from OCT B-scan images of eyes without retinal vascular diseases. The study involved three models: Model 1 predicted the FAZ length from B-scan images; Model 2 estimated the FAZ area from the predicted length using 1, 3, or 5 horizontal measurements; and Model 3 converted the FAZ area from pixels to mm2.

Purpose: To observe the choroidal vasculature in patients with tilted disc syndrome (TDS) using en face optical coherence tomography (OCT) and to evaluate the symmetry of the choroidal vascular pattern in the macular area.

Methods: En face OCT was performed using a Plex Elite 9000 (Zeiss) with a 12 × 12 mm image of the macula, which was flattened with retinal pigment epithelium and segmented into choroidal layers. The middle/large choroidal vessels were evaluated for vertical symmetry qualitatively by the retina specialist coauthors and quantitatively by binarization analysis of choroidal vessel density and mean vessel diameter.

This multicentre retrospective study evaluated the 1-year outcomes and safety profile of faricimab in treatment-naïve patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
