Projections towards 2050 of the global hydrogen (H) demand indicate an eight-fold increase in present-day hydrogen consumption. Leakage during production, transport, and consumption therefore presents a large potential for increases in the atmospheric hydrogen burden. Although not a greenhouse gas itself, hydrogen has important indirect climate effects, and the Global Warming Potential of H is estimated to be 12.

It is known that the oxygen isotope composition of CO-in-air, when stored over longer time periods in glass sample flasks, tends to drift to more negative values while the carbon isotope composition remains stable. The exact mechanisms behind this drift were still unclear. New experimental results reveal that water already inside the flasks during sampling plays a major role in the drift of the oxygen isotopes.
