Aims: Occult posterior malleolar fractures (PMFs) associated with tibial shaft fractures are thought to occur most commonly in spiral fracture types of the tibia. We hypothesize that tibial diaphyseal fracture patterns would be associated with certain PMFs, highlighting the pathomechanics of the injury.

Methods: A retrospective review was performed on data collected between 1 January 2013 and 9 November 2020.

Background: Hallux valgus (HV) may be associated with a dysfunctional peroneus longus, however there is very little research into the link between these pathologies. The peroneus longus tubercle (PLT) may serve as a surrogate marker for peroneus longus function. Our objective was to compare the position, orientation and morphology of the PLT in feet with and without HV.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare plain lateral radiographs and 3D surface rendering (SR) CT imaging, in the characterization of posterior malleolar fracture (PMF) morphology using the Mason and Molloy classification. The null hypothesis was that there was no difference in characterization of morphology between plain radiographs and 3D SR CT.

Methods: Morphology of the PMF was categorized initially by the CT scan as classified by Mason and Molloy on 180 trimalleolar ankle fractures.

The fibularis longus attaches to the base of the first metatarsal at the fibularis/peroneus longus tubercle (FLT/PLT). Theoretically, differences in FLT morphology may reflect changes in the function of the fibularis longus. This study defines the normal limits of the FLT position, orientation, and size in patients with morphologically normal foot anatomy.

The ReMotion wrist replacement has good short- to medium-term survival with an acceptable complication profile as we previously reported in a cohort of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. We now report the long-term results of the same cohort and details of explant analysis of revisions undertaken for aseptic loosening. A total of 16 wrists were reviewed.

Background: Multiple authors have highlighted the increased incidence of occult posterior malleolar fractures (PMFs) with spiral tibial shaft fractures, although other reported associated risks of intra-articular extension have been limited. The aim of our study is to investigate both PMFs and non-PMFs intra-articular extensions associated with tibial diaphyseal fractures to try to determine any predictive factors.

Methods: We undertook a retrospective review of a prospectively collected database.

Introduction And Aims: COVID-19 has had a significant impact on orthopaedic surgery globally. This paper aims to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on foot and ankle trauma in a major trauma centre.

Methods: A retrospective observational study of prospectively collected data was performed.

Objectives: To develop an ultrasonographic scanning protocol that included an assessment of muscle size [the proposed Bilateral Anterior Thigh Thickness (BATT)] and quality (echogenicity) to support the diagnosis of sarcopenia in a clinical setting. To determine the relationship of BATT and ultrasound echogenicity with physical function parameters of sarcopenia and test the reliability of ultrasound echogenicity measurements.

Design: Observational study.
