Combination therapy of active vitamin D with some bisphosphonates (BPs) has been reported to be clinically beneficial. However, combination therapy of eldecalcitol (ELD) with BP has to date not been validated as to whether it is beneficial in the clinical setting. Preclinical studies suggested that simultaneous treatment with ELD and some BPs is more effective than monotherapy.

The chronic atrioventricular block (CAVB) dog has been widely used as an in vivo proarrhythmia model. mRNA levels of K(+) and Ca(2+) channels in the isolated ventricular tissues from normal and CAVB dogs were assayed using a real-time PCR. The mRNA levels of KvLQT1 and MiRP1 were significantly less in the CAVB heart compared with those in the intact heart, whereas no significant difference was detected in the mRNA levels of other K(+)- or Ca(2+)-channel subunits.

Although the results of our previous in vivo study suggested that N-type calcium channels may have a role in regulating plasma aldosterone levels, the direct relationship between N-type calcium channels and aldosterone production in adrenocortical cells has not been examined. In this study, the analysis of quantitative reverse transcription-PCR, western blotting, and immunocytological staining indicated the possible presence of N-type calcium channels in human adrenocortical cells (H295R cell line).

DS rats fed a high-salt diet were divided into six groups; control (n = 13), two CCB (cilnidipine or amlodipine) groups at 1 mg/kg/day (n = 10), ARB (valsartan) at 10 mg/kg/day (n = 12), cilnidipine + valsartan (CV, n = 12), and amlodipine + valsartan (AV, n = 12). BPs were lower in the combination therapy groups than in those given either drug alone, but only CV inhibited the increase in urinary albumin excretion (UAE) and lowered the glomerular sclerosis score.

Methods: Marker genes were initially identified using DNA microarray data from a rat liver fibrosis model. The expression level of each fibrosis associated marker gene was analyzed using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in clinical biopsy specimens from HCV-positive patients (n = 61).
Eutherian placenta, an organ that emerged in the course of mammalian evolution, provides essential architecture, the so-called feto-maternal interface, for fetal development by exchanging nutrition, gas and waste between fetal and maternal blood. Functional defects of the placenta cause several developmental disorders, such as intrauterine growth retardation in humans and mice. A series of new inventions and/or adaptations must have been necessary to form and maintain eutherian chorioallantoic placenta, which consists of capillary endothelial cells and a surrounding trophoblast cell layer(s).
