Background: Ambroxol is a mucokinetic drug with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Renal ischemia/reperfusion (IR) is the cause of acute kidney injury that usually occurs with other comorbidities.
Objectives: To explore ambroxol for repurposing against renal IR-induced cardio-renal injury.
Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a common and disabling disorder that increases the risk of bone fractures due to estrogen deprivation; this can be simulated in rats by ovariectomy. Hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) expression in osteoclasts predominantly leads to its activation increasing bone resorption. Premenopausal, estrogen prevents HIF-1α expression maintaining bone density.
