Impact of optimal anti-proteinuric therapy on the prevention of diabetic kidney disease progression.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the leading global cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), with its prevalence rising, particularly in resource-limited settings. Antiproteinuric medications are central to DKD management, but their optimal utilization is expected to be low in such settings and remains underexplored in Ethiopia. This study aimed to assess the optimization of antiproteinuric therapy in DKD and its association with proteinuria and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).

Coronavirus disease 2019 and malaria coinfection in a middle-aged Ethiopian woman presenting with acute febrile illness and bilateral pleural effusion: a case report.

Introduction: There could be misdiagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 for malaria and vice versa because of their similar presentations, particularly when clinicians rely mainly on symptoms for diagnosis. Coinfection with coronavirus disease 2019 and malaria is associated with increased all-cause in-hospital mortality compared with isolated infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Presentation with pleural effusion adds another challenge in the diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019.
