The main biologically active molecules of L. are cannabidiol (CBD) and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Both exert anticonvulsant effects when evaluated as single drugs, but their possible interaction as components of extracts has been scarcely studied.

Free-living amoebae (FLA), particularly Vermamoeba vermiformis and Acanthamoeba spp., have emerged as indispensable models for the study of giant viruses. These organisms provide a unique and efficient system for the isolation and replication of giant viruses, serving as known permissive hosts and thus playing a pivotal role in advancing research in this field.

Intervention systematic review with meta-analysis. MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, CINAHL, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Epistemonikos were searched from inception to December 2024.

The intense consumption of polymeric materials combined with poor waste management results in the dissemination of their fragments in the environment as micro- and nanoplastics. They are easily dispersed in stormwater, wastewater, and landfill leachate and carried towards rivers, lakes, and oceans, causing their contamination. In aqueous matrices, the use of membrane separation processes has stood out for the efficiency of removing these particulate contaminants, achieving removals of up to 100%.

Modeling played a significant role in underpinning public policy during the COVID-19 pandemic, when decision-making faced a context of limited evidence. This is a cross-sectional study that included and characterized institutions and research groups that worked with COVID-19 modeling and decision-making support. Two strategies were used for identification: 1) scoping review, and 2) group identification by snowball sampling.

Background: Y-Balance Test (YBT) assesses postural stability. When is applied to patients after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), it is not clear which variables influence its result.

Objective: To connect YBT and postural stability, quadriceps, hamstring, and gluteus complex muscle strength, ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ADFROM).

Article Synopsis
  • COVID-19 vaccination among indigenous minors is essential for controlling the pandemic due to their increased vulnerability from limited healthcare.
  • A study was conducted on 98 Brazilian indigenous adolescents, primarily of Guarani ethnicity, to evaluate the immune response to the BNT162b2 vaccine after vaccination.
  • Results showed a significant increase in antibody concentrations and various immune cells, indicating the vaccine's effectiveness, while also highlighting the potential need for booster doses in this population.

Article Synopsis
  • Superinfection inhibition occurs when certain viruses prevent additional viruses from entering infected host cells, ensuring the genetic dominance of the first virus.
  • Research has explored this phenomenon in giant amoeba-infecting viruses, specifically mimivirus and moumouvirus, which have shown the ability to inhibit new infections, while megavirus does not.
  • The study highlights that mimivirus and moumouvirus disrupt amoebic phagocytosis, altering host cell behavior, whereas megavirus allows continued entry of new virions, indicating significant differences in viral-host interactions despite their evolutionary similarities.

infections are getting increasingly serious as antimicrobial resistance spreads. Phage therapy may be a solution to the problem, especially if improved by current advances on phage-host studies. As a mucosal pathogen, we hypothesize that and its phages are linked to the bacteriophage adherence to mucus (BAM) model.

This study aims to understand the meanings related to sexual health and the delineations that define the experience of accessing health services for lesbian women in Manaus, Brazil. This study followed a qualitative approach, counting on the participation of ten women who self-reported themselves as lesbians. Semi-structured interviews were carried out and their analyses occurred through three thematic axes.

Introduction: Although the adaptive immune responses to the CoronaVac vaccine are known, their dynamics in indigenous communities remain unclear. In this study, we assessed the humoral and cellular immune responses to CoronaVac (Sinovac Biotech Life Sciences, 2021 NCT05225285, Beijing, China), in immunized Brazilian indigenous individuals.

Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study on indigenous Brazilian people between February 2021 and June 2021.

This qualitative study, with five participating interlocutors, sought to understand the senses and meanings of parenting among trans men who became pregnant before gender transition. Analysis was conducted in light of social theories of gender. The results demonstrated an experience of parenthood subject to a field of tensions and negotiations, as well as subjective production that oscillated between transgression and accommodation of the cultural perspective of their own experience.

Background: The association between obesity and infectious diseases is increasingly reported in the literature. There are scarce studies on the association between obesity and urinary tract infection after kidney transplantation (KTx). These studies defined obesity based on body mass index, and their results were conflicting.

Protists encompass a vast widely distributed group of organisms, surpassing the diversity observed in metazoans. Their diverse ecological niches and life forms are intriguing characteristics that render them valuable subjects for in-depth cell biology studies. Throughout history, viruses have played a pivotal role in elucidating complex cellular processes, particularly in the context of cellular responses to viral infections.

This study assessed the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in 496 asymptomatic individuals from Mato Grosso do Sul, located in Dourados, the largest periurban indigenous area in Brazil, from January 25 to February 4, 2021. The volunteers participated before receiving their first dose of the CoronaVac inactivated vaccine. For screening, blood samples were collected and analyzed using SARS-CoV-2 rapid tests and the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Unlabelled: Morais et al. conducted a pioneering study with Brazilian indigenous populations to determine reference values for immunologic cells from healthy adult individuals. The main findings included a higher relative median for T lymphocyte subsets in females than males, and T CD3+, T CD4+, and T CD8+ relative values were statistically different when compared with Brazilian populations from other Brazilian regions.

Living species vary significantly in phenotype and genomic content. Sophisticated statistical methods linking genes with phenotypes within a species have led to breakthroughs in complex genetic diseases and genetic breeding. Despite the abundance of genomic and phenotypic data available for thousands of species, finding genotype-phenotype associations across species is challenging due to the non-independence of species data resulting from common ancestry.
