Background: Slipping rib syndrome (SRS) is caused by abnormal subluxation of floating ribs, resulting in chronic pain and possible tissue damage. Its prevalence is often overlooked, as it shares symptoms with other musculoskeletal conditions, and is more common in young females and athletes. Symptoms include pain along the lower rib margin, aggravated by trunk movements, deep breathing and coughing.

The term 'vaping' refers to the use of electronic cigarettes or other devices to inhale a variety of heated and aerosolized substances. Vaping has been promoted as a less harmful and potentially oncogenic alternative to nicotine cigarettes, particularly to help heavy smokers quit. While vaping products do not produce the same carcinogenic substances-such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons-generated by the combustion of tobacco, and while their fluids lack tobacco-related carcinogens like nitrosamines, it is now well established that they still generate harmful and potentially oncogenic byproducts.

Undifferentiated connective tissue disease (UCTD) is a condition characterized by serological evidence of autoimmunity and occurrence of clinical symptoms suggestive for systemic autoimmune diseases, yet not fulfilling specific classification/diagnostic criteria. In the present longitudinal, observational, retrospective study, we aimed at analysing the evolution of UCTD course, focussing on the impact of 2019 EULAR/ACR classification criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Since 2008 we consecutively collected data about UCTD patients.

The absence of identifiable triggers makes diagnosis, monitoring and management particularly challenging. Patient-reported outcomes are direct reports from patients that offer valuable insights into their health and wellbeing, enhancing communication between patients and clinicians and enabling more personalized care and informed decision making.

RA primarily targets the synovial joints and is characterized by cartilage and bone erosion, whereas PsA is associated with skin and nail psoriasis and is characterized by erosive bone damage with an exuberant bone formation and soft tissue involvement. Recent evidence described the involvement of the Wnt pathway in the pathogenesis of these diseases.

Indeed, several cell lines involved in the pathogenesis of these autoimmune diseases, such as macrophages and dendritic cells, as well as different T and B lymphocyte subsets, and inflammatory cytokines, have been demonstrated to be directly involved in the mechanisms underlying early atherosclerotic arterial wall damage. Traditional CV risk factors play a concomitant role but do not sufficiently account for the increased prevalence of CV disease in these patients.

Additionally, to investigate the rate and outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection in IgG4-RD patients.
Methods: Patients with IgG4-RD in follow-up before the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic were contacted by telephone and asked to answer an ad hoc questionnaire regarding their vaccination status against SARS-CoV-2 and related AEs following vaccination.
Introduction: Lupus nephritis (LN), caused by immune complexes produced or deposited from the bloodstream, is one of the most severe features of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) leading to an increased morbidity and mortality. Toll like receptors (TLRs), such as TLR3, TLR7 and TLR9, may play a key role in its pathogenesis. Interleukin-32 (IL-32), a cytokine involved in both innate and adaptive immune responses, has been widely considered in autoimmune-inflammatory rheumatic diseases.

This study investigated the impact of subcutaneous (sc) Belimumab (BLM) on the peripheral B cell compartment and on the functional properties of CD21, T-bet and CD11c atypical B cells, in 21 active SLE patients over a 12-month period. At baseline, active SLE patients displayed reduced unswitched IgM memory B cells and expansion of atypical B cells, compared to healthy donors and to SLE patients in remission.

Objective: As suggested by the EULAR recommendations, a comprehensive management of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) should include the evaluation of disease activity, chronic damage, and quality of life (QoL). QoL is significantly impaired in SLE patients, even in those achieving a state of remission, suggesting the possible contribution of other factors. Thus, in the present study we aimed at analyzing QoL in a large SLE cohort by using LupusQoL, and at identifying the main determinant of poorer QoL.

Background/aim: Lipid-lowering therapy prescription is low in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, often not achieving lipid threshold target despite treatment. However, evidence derives from small, monocentric cohorts. We assessed adherence to lipid-lowering treatment for primary cardiovascular (CV) prevention in a RA cohort according to international guidelines.

We aimed to investigate PASS achievement within 4 weeks of treatment with Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors (Jakinibs) and its association with treatment response after 4 and 12 weeks in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.
Methods: We recruited consecutive RA patients starting baricitinib or tofacitinib.
We analysed the change in the positioning of belimumab (BLM) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) treatment in the first decade of real-life use, by providing data about patients treated by this biological drug in the Sapienza Lupus Cohort. We evaluated SLE patients treated by BLM according to the current clinical practice. Data of each patient were collected, focusing on previous and concomitant treatments.

Cytokines function as communication tools of the immune system, serving critical functions in many biological responses and shaping the immune response. When cytokine production or their biological activity goes awry, the homeostatic balance of the immune response is altered, leading to the development of several pathologies such as autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. Cytokines bind to specific receptors on cells, triggering the activation of intracellular enzymes known as Janus kinases (JAKs).

HCVMCV develops in only ~5% of patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC), but risk factors other than female gender have not been identified so far. We conducted a retrospective case control study investigating whether past active HBV infection, defined by hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroclearance and anti-core antibody (HBcAb) positivity, could be a risk factor for developing HCVMCV.

Background And Objectives: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) often causes damage to small nerve fibers, leading to distressing painful and autonomic symptoms. Despite this, Small Fiber Neuropathy (SFN) remains an underrecognized complication for SLE patients. In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to assess SFN in patients with SLE and to explore its correlations with immunologic disease features and clinical manifestations.

While acute morbidity and mortality are well-known outcomes in thoracic-traumatized patients, long-term quality of life in patients surviving surgical treatment has not been widely investigated before.
Methods: Between November 2016 and November 2023, thirty-two consecutive patients were operated on because of thoracic trauma.
Objectives: To assess the efficacy of subcutaneous (sc) belimumab (BLM) by the application of SLE-DAS in a monocentric SLE cohort.
Methods: We evaluated SLE patients treated with sc BLM from March 2019. Disease activity has been assessed by SLEDAI-2k, SLE-DAS and PGA (Physician Global Assessment) in all the established time-points [baseline (T0), after 1 (T1), 3 (T3), 6 (T6) and 12 (T12) months].
Pleural mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the pleura. In recent years, there has been increasing interest and attention in detecting and diagnosing early-stage or precancerous forms of mesothelioma because of its severe prognosis and short life expectancy at the time of diagnosis. Mesothelioma in situ represents a clear opportunity to improve and innovate the diagnostic approach and the multimodality treatment of mesothelioma: the diagnosis of pleural mesothelioma at the 'in-situ phase' means early disease detection and thus paves the way to new possible curable strategies.
