Background And Aim: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic conditions that affect the gastrointestinal tract. The chronic inflammatory state promotes a catabolic environment that contributes to undernutrition, while mucosal damage often impairs nutrient absorption. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between nutritional status-including micronutrient deficiencies-and clinical as well as laboratoristics disease activity in a cohort of patients with IBD.

Effectiveness of Plastic Stent for the Treatment of Incomplete Clearance of Common Bile Duct Stone: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Background And Aims: Common bile duct stones (CBDs) can typically be treated by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in 85-90% of cases. However, in the remaining 10-15% of patients, bile duct stones cannot be extracted. In such cases, the placement of a temporary biliary plastic stent is recommended.

Background: Only a few studies have assessed sexual dysfunction in women with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS).

Background: Moral Distress (MD) is a unique form of distress that occurs when people believe they know the ethically correct action to take but are constrained from doing so. Limited clinical experience and insufficient ethical knowledge contribute to nursing students' MD, which can potentially cause negative outcomes. The aims of this study are: (1) to describe the MD intensity of nursing students, and (2) to analyze differences and associations between MD intensity and socio-demographic and academic variables.

Purpose: False penile fractures (FPF) represent a rare sexual emergency characterized by blunt trauma of penis in the absence of albuginea's injury, with or without lesion of dorsal penile vein. Their presentation is often indistinguishable from true penile fractures (TPF). This overlapping of clinical presentation, and lack of knowledge about FPF, can lead surgeons often to proceed directly to surgical exploration without further examinations.

Unemployment Status Subsequent to Cancer Diagnosis and Therapies: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

The purpose of our study is to examine whether cancer and treatments are associated with job loss or changes in employment status. Eight prospective studies were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis, with a population aged 18-65 years, analyzing treatment regimen and psychophysical and social status in post-cancer follow-up of at least 2 years. In the meta-analysis, a comparison was made between recovered unemployed cases and cases from a standard reference population.

(3) Results: out of 974 papers found with electronic search, six studies have been included into the systematic review, and five of them, for a grand total of 208 patients, were included into the meta-analysis.

Local ultra-low-dose estriol gel treatment of vulvo-vaginal atrophy: efficacy and safety of long-term treatment.

Vulvo-vaginal atrophy (VVA) is a chronic condition affecting many postmenopausal women. Local estrogen treatment is recommended. Evaluating efficacy and safety of long-term VVA treatment with ultra-low-dose estriol gel, 120 postmenopausal VVA women were enrolled in a prospective study.

Characterization of Sarcopenia in an IBD Population Attending an Italian Gastroenterology Tertiary Center.

(1) Background: There is growing interest in the assessment of muscular mass in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) as sarcopenia is associated with important outcomes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the percentage of sarcopenia in IBD patients, characterizing methods for assessment and clinical symptoms associated to it. (2) Methods: Consecutive IBD patients accessing the Fondazione Policlinico Agostino Gemelli Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico (IRCCS) were enrolled.

Cardiovascular Risk/Benefit Profile of MHT.

Data emerging from the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study point toward an association between menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) and cardiovascular (CV) risk. However, post hoc subgroup analyses stratifying participants according to their age and time since menopause, have opened the way to a better understanding of the relationship between estrogen and CV risk. The aim of this review was to revise the current literature and evaluate the CV risk or benefit following administration of MHT considering several factors such as MHT timing, dose, route of administration, and formulation.

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest on muscle wasting, considering the reduction of quality of life and the increase of morbidity and mortality associated. Sarcopenia and cachexia represent two conditions of reduction of muscle mass, sharing several elements involved in their pathogenesis, such as systemic inflammation, impaired muscle protein synthesis, increased muscle apoptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction in skeletal muscle tissue and insulin resistance. These features often characterize cancer, inactivity or denervation, but also inflammatory diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, renal failure, cardiac failure, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and aging in general.

Multiparametric Evaluation Predicts Different Mid-Term Outcomes in Crohn's Disease.

Aim: To evaluate if a single and/or combined (clinical, endoscopic and radiological) assessment could predict clinical outcomes in Crohn's disease (CD).

Methods: We prospectively evaluated 57 CD cases who underwent both a colonoscopy and a CT-enterography (CTE).
