A study was made of total and local immunity of two groups of Papio hamadryads subjected to single and ten-fold external gamma-irradiation at a cumulative dose of 5 cGy. It has been shown that with equal dosages changes in the relative and absolute number of lymphocytes in the peripheral blood, the number of circulating T-cells and their functional activity are more pronounced in animals subjected to fractionated irradiation. Both groups exhibited similar disturbances in the functional activity of antibody-dependent killers and in local immunity of stomatopharynx.

We have investigated cytotoxic action of p-aminobenzhydrazide and its influence on biosynthesis of nucleic acids in cultures of intact cells, tumor cells and intact cells stimulated by phytohemagglutinin. p-Aminobenzhydrazide is considered as a representative of hydrazine's derivatives (in particular, of hydrazine sulphate). We compare its action with that of a typical cytotoxic agent such as iododeoxyuridine.

Treatment of lymphoid 594S/F9 cells with 12-o-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), cycloheximide (CH) has no effect on cell proliferation. A reversible blocking of the cellular DNA and RNA synthesis is observed. Repeated treatment with TPA, iododeoxyuridine (IDU) or sodium butyrate (SB) causes more pronounced changes in cell metabolism, which sharply decreases the salt sensitive DNA polymerase activity.

Lymphoid cell lines of monkey and human origin were characterized by proliferative activity, electrophoretic mobility, and percentage of colony-forming cells. Papio hamadryas cell lines were divided into two types similar to those of humans. One of them includes cell lines of tumor origin with high proliferative activity, decreased electrophoretic mobility, and a high percentage of colony-forming cells.
