Article Synopsis
  • Nurse empathy is crucial for enhancing health care quality and alleviating patients' physical and psychological symptoms, yet studies show a decrease in empathy among nurses over time.
  • Researchers aimed to explore the relationship between reported empathy and Mu suppression (a brain response linked to empathy) in nurses with three years of experience.
  • Results indicated no significant differences in Mu suppression or reported empathy scores between nurses with varying backgrounds, suggesting that three years of experience does not impact empathy levels significantly.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how mu suppression relates to self-reported empathy in nurses and its impact on patient satisfaction.
  • Using a sample of 30 nurses and their patients, the researchers measured empathy with specific scales and analyzed brain activity via EEG to assess mu suppression.
  • Results indicated no link between mu suppression and empathy or patient satisfaction, but a positive correlation between nurses' self-reported empathy and patient satisfaction was found, suggesting that empathy skills can be developed to improve patient experiences.
