Outcomes of open or closed treatment of foot fractures: A database study comparing patients with and without diabetes.

Treatment of ankle and foot fractures in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) is challenging, and complications may arise. Although much data exists on complication rates in tibial, fibular, and malleolar fractures, there exists a comparable lack of data on complication rates in fractures of the tarsal, metatarsal, and phalanx bones of the foot. Therefore, we aimed to compare post-procedural outcomes after such fractures in diabetic vs non-diabetic patients.

The caregiver burden of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies.

Purpose: The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to determine the prevalence of caregiver burden (CB) in caregivers of patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM).

Methods: An anonymous survey was distributed worldwide to caregivers of myositis patients through Myositis Support and Understanding in May 2022. CB was measured using the Zarit Burden Interview.

Lower extremity amputation rates in patients with chronic kidney disease: A database study comparing patients with and without diabetes mellitus.

Lower extremity amputation (LEA) is one of the most feared consequences of diabetes mellitus (DM). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of DM on LEA rates in patients at various stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD). A commercially available de-identified database was searched for patients undergoing LEA and for CKD patients, from 2010 to 2023.

Exercise recommendations for patients with myositis: a narrative review of safety and efficacy.

Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) are marked by progressive muscle weakness and lasting disability. Therapies targeting patient well-being include the use of prescription drugs as well as exercise. Maintaining or increasing muscular strength and endurance as well as cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) improves quality of life (QoL) as well as functional status in IIM patients.
