Objective: The study assessed the prevalence and clinical implications of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV)-positive but Human Papillomavirus (HPV)-negative oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in a tertiary care hospital setting. The overall goal was to elucidate the potential impact of EBV on OSCC disease progression and prognosis.
Design: A total of 134 surgically resected and histopathologically confirmed OSCC tumor biopsies were collected from a tertiary care hospital.
Breast and colorectal cancers are the most common tumors, with high recurrence and low survival rates. We designed and synthesized a series of spirooxindole pyrrolidinyl derivatives, which were further evaluated for anti-proliferative activity using MDA-MB-468 and HCT 15 cell lines. The best inhibitor of this class, compound 6f, showed a very good inhibition potency, both on the MDA-MB-468 and HCT 15 cells as confirmed by molecular docking and molecular dynamic studies that predicted its binding mode into the active site of the targets.

Traditional risk factors for OC include smoking, alcohol consumption, and poorly controlled acid reflux; however, the trends in the last decade have pointed out the potential carcinogenic roles of infectious agents, especially Human Papillomavirus (HPV), in the development of OC. The prevalence of HPV infection in OC varies greatly worldwide, mainly due to the inconsistencies of the detection assays employed.

The high incidence of oral carcinomas is due to its multifactorial etiology and the presence of various risk factors. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) has a proven role in the pathogenesis of oral carcinomas, but in the recent times there has been an increasing incidence of oral cancers who are negative for HPV infection. Also, these patients are non-smokers and non-drinkers so it could be speculated that these oral cancers are due to some other etiological factor probably of other viral infections.

Purpose: To investigate the role of NRF2 signalling in conferring superior prognosis in patients with HPV positive (HPV) head & neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) compared to HPV negative (HPV) HNSCC and develop molecular markers for selection of HPV HNSCC patients for treatment de-escalation trials.
Methods: NRF2 activity (NRF2, KEAP1, and NRF2-transcriptional targets), p16, and p53 levels between HPV HNSCC and HPV HNSCC in prospective and retrospective tumor samples as well as from TCGA database were compared. Cancer cells were transfected with HPV-E6/E7 plasmid to elucidate if HPV infection represses NRF2 activity and sensitizes to chemo-radiotherapy.
Objective: This review article aims to discuss the role of oncogenic viruses in the development of head and neck cancers including the prevalence, mode of infection and the clinical relevance of these viral infections associated with tumours.
Design: A detailed review of scientific literature was performed relevant to oncogenic viruses associated with head and neck cancers.
Results: The incidence of head and neck cancers associated with traditional risk factors such as smoking, chewing tobacco and alcohol consumption have reduced gradually.
