Background: This meta-analysis evaluates the benefits of single-site laparoscopy hysterectomy (SS-LH) compared to conventional multi-port laparoscopy (MP-LH). Although SS-LH offers cosmetic and less invasive advantages, the efficacy and safety results in existing studies remain inconsistent.
Objective: We aimed to compare the outcomes of SS-LH and MP-LH in patients with benign and malignant gynecological diseases, focusing on the benefits of each modality.
Introduction: Social determinants of health (SDoH) and health literacy have been demonstrated to significantly impact health outcomes. As part of a study of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) treatment from the emergency department (ED), we assessed the burden of SDoH and health literacy among patients with DKA to identify potentially modifiable risk factors in the development of DKA.
Methods: This was an exploratory, prospective, cross-sectional study of adult patients with DKA in a large urban academic ED from March 2023-March 2024.

Methods: Cytotoxicity was assessed by propidium iodide flow cytometry on fibroblasts derived from the periodontal ligament. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of CBD and CBG for and and the metabolic activity of a subgingival 33-species biofilm under CBD and CBG treatments were determined.
Background: The 'western seed bug', known as , is considered a global invasive species that has experienced a recent rapid expansion worldwide, becoming an important pest species for coniferous forests.
New Information: With the 'Canary Islands early-warning network for the detection and intervention of invasive exotic species' (RedEXOS), this species was detected for the first time in the Canarian archipelago in an urban area in the eastern part of the island of Gran Canaria. This early detection is crucial for understanding the potential damage in one of the islands with the highest surface area of natural endemic pine forest.
Soil arthropod diversity contributes to a high proportion of the total biodiversity on Earth. However, most soil arthropods are still undescribed, hindering our understanding of soil functioning and global biodiversity estimations. Inventorying soil arthropods using conventional taxonomical approaches is particularly difficult and costly due to the great species richness, abundance and local-scale heterogeneity of mesofauna communities and the poor taxonomic background knowledge of most lineages.

For such samples, sorting to putative species with DNA barcodes is an attractive alternative, but needs cost-effective techniques that are suitable for use in many laboratories around the world. Barcoding using the portable and inexpensive MinION sequencer produced by Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) could be useful for presorting specimen-rich samples with DNA barcodes because it requires little space and is inexpensive.

Objective: Determine whether combination therapy with ganciclovir (GCV) and a Quercetin-P188 solution improves hearing outcomes in a murine cytomegalovirus (CMV) model.
Methods: BALB/c mice were infected with murine CMV on postnatal day 3 (p3). Quercetin was solubilized in saline using P188 (QP188).
Objective: Compare hearing outcomes utilizing standard, prolonged and delayed ganciclovir (GCV) therapy in a murine model of cytomegalovirus (CMV).
Methods: BALB/c mice were inoculated with mouse cytomegalovirus (mCMV) or saline via intracerebral injection on postnatal day 3 (p3). Intraperitoneal GCV or saline was administered at 12 h intervals for the duration of the standard (p3-p17), delayed (p30-p44), or prolonged treatment windows (p3-p31).
The relationship between species local abundance and their regional distribution (occupancy) is one of the most extensively recognized and investigated patterns in ecology. While exceptions exist, the generally held model is that locally abundant species also tend to be more widespread geographically. However, there is only a limited understanding of both the mechanisms driving this relationship, and their scale dependency.

Objective: To identify outcomes in hearing loss (HL) diagnosis and intervention in infants with a failed newborn hearing screen (NBHS) and otitis media with effusion (OME) compared to those with failed NBHS and without OME.
Study Design: Retrospective review.
Setting: Tertiary medical center.
Background: There is limited research regarding the association between the mFI-5 and postoperative complications among adult spinal deformity (ASD) patients.
Methods: Using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (NSQIP) database, patients with Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for > 7-level fusion or < 7-level fusion with International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9) codes for ASD were identified between 2008 and 2016. Univariate analyses with post-hoc Bonferroni correction for demographics and preoperative factors were performed.
The challenges that Latin America faces in health are deeply related to others, such as access to clean water, the right to education, and housing. Health professionals that work in an environment where the population faces constant barriers to accessing care in the public health system or has limited resources to pay for it in a private sector will face an ethical dilemma, the question of how to honor the call to care for patients when there is not enough support system or infrastructure to do so. Within the schools of medicine and health sciences, the question is how to train students to face or resolve these conflicts.
