Purpose: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is known to form venous tumor thrombus (VTT); however, limited data exist on VTT growth rates. We sought to characterize the growth rate of VTTs from RCC and identify clinicopathologic features associated with faster thrombus growth.

Materials And Methods: Systemic therapy naïve patients with RCC and VTT with two pre-operative imaging studies performed with contrast at least 7 days apart were identified from a single institutional registry.

Purpose: Surgical site infection (SSI) following open radical cystectomy (ORC) is common and carries significant morbidity. Incisional negative pressure wound therapy (iNPWT) has not been rigorously studied in this population. Herein, we evaluate the association between prophylactic iNPWT and postoperative wound complications in ORC patients.

Objective: To characterize hospital complications following radical nephrectomy (RN) for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with inferior vena cava (IVC) and cardiac venous tumor thrombectomy (VTT) and evaluate the relationship between hospital caseload and patient outcomes.

Methods: A pooled, cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from the 2016-2020 National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database. Patients undergoing RN for RCC with IVC- or cardiac-VTT were identified, and complications were categorized using an approximation of the Clavien system.

Pelvic floor disorders frequently occur as the result of excessive straining from chronic constipation or the trauma of vaginal childbirth, making them more common in women. We present a 62-year-old male with bladder prolapse through the anterior rectal wall in the setting of longstanding bladder holding behavior and excessive straining to void. We performed a novel robotic-assisted laparoscopic cystoprostosacropexy by anchoring the bladder and prostate to the sacrum to prevent bladder descent.

Purpose: Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is a low-risk penile cancer management option. However, contemporary patients' short-term oncologic control and preoperative characteristics predicting reconstruction needs are undefined. This study assesses MMS's oncologic efficacy for low-risk penile cancer and identifies baseline predictors of post-resection reconstruction referral.

Objective: To compare survival and pathologic outcomes in patients with progressive muscle-invasive bladder cancer (pgMIBC) and de novo muscle-invasive bladder cancer (dnMIBC) after radical cystectomy (RC), with a focus on the role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).

Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted on PubMed and EMBASE databases to identify studies comparing pgMIBC to dnMIBC. Survival outcomes, including cancer-specific survival (CSS), overall survival (OS), and recurrence-free survival (RFS), and pathologic outcomes (rates of ≤pT1, pT0, pT3/T4, and pN+ disease) were compared between pgMIBC and dnMIBC.

Article Synopsis
  • Cigarette smoking is linked to higher risks of prostate cancer and mortality, with smokers being less likely to receive PSA screening compared to non-smokers, prompting the need for further investigation in this area.* -
  • A survey of men aged 55 to 69 revealed that only 27% of current smokers underwent PSA screening, compared to 42% of never and former smokers, suggesting a significant disparity based on smoking status.* -
  • The study concludes that current smokers are less compliant with recommended PSA screening guidelines, whereas former smokers are screened similarly to never smokers, indicating a potential target for interventions to improve early diagnosis and outcomes.*

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers investigated how urologists influence the treatment of small renal masses, revealing significant variations based on the urologist's approach.
  • Analyzed data from over 12,000 patients showed marked differences in management strategies: nonsurgical (12.8%), thermal ablation (10.8%), partial nephrectomy (30.1%), and radical nephrectomy (40.4%), indicating a strong reliance on urologist preferences.
  • The study highlights the necessity for standardized guidelines to lessen unwarranted differences in treatment and improve patient care.

The ongoing Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) shortage has created challenges for the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBCa). Our objective was to evaluate the efficacy of reduced-dose induction BCG (RD-iBCG) compared to full-dose induction BCG (FD-iBCG) regarding recurrence rates. We hypothesized that patients receiving RD-iBCG may recur at a higher rate compared to those who received FD-iBCG therapy.

Introduction: The presence of sarcomatoid features in localized renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is associated with worse outcomes. We sought to use a national database to evaluate the outcomes and prognosis of metastatic RCC (mRCC) with sarcomatoid features treated with cytoreductive nephrectomy (CN) and targeted therapy (TT).

Methods: The National Cancer Database (2010-2013) was used to identify patients with mRCC at diagnosis.

Purpose Of Review: To discuss considerations for hysteropexy for apical pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and summarize available literature comparing various hysteropexy techniques to analogous procedures involving hysterectomy.

Recent Findings: Hysteropexy for apical POP has increased in popularity in recent years, although anatomic factors and gynecologic cancer risk must be taken into account. Native tissue hysteropexy options include the LeFort colpocleisis, sacrospinous hysteropexy, and uterosacral hysteropexy.
