: The main objective of the study is to assess the clinical utility of microbial cell-free DNA (mcfDNA) in neutropenic patients diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) undergoing chemotherapy in the outpatient setting. Neutropenia is a common complication in this patient cohort and enhances the risk of fatal opportunistic bacterial and fungal infections. Accurate and timely diagnosis of these infections in outpatient asymptomatic individuals is critical.

Microbial pathogens generate extracellular vesicles (EVs) for intercellular communication and quorum sensing. Microbial EVs also induce inflammatory pathways within host innate immune cells. We previously demonstrated that EVs secreted by Candida albicans trigger type I interferon signaling in host cells specifically via the cGAS-STING innate immune signaling pathway.

In tissues, neutrophils neutralize Candida albicans through phagocytosis and delay C. albicans hyphae growth by deploying neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). However, in the bloodstream, the dynamic interactions between NETs and C.

Inhibition of Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) through covalent modifications of its active site (e.g., ibrutinib [IBT]) is a preferred treatment for multiple B cell malignancies.

Unlabelled: Recent epidemiological studies documented an alarming increase in the prevalence of echinocandin-resistant (ECR) blood isolates. ECR isolates are known to arise from a minor subpopulation of a clonal population, termed echinocandin persisters. Although it is believed that isolates with a higher echinocandin persistence (ECP) are more likely to develop ECR, the implication of ECP needs to be better understood.

is known to cause severe and persistent outbreaks in clinical settings. Patients infected with multidrug-resistant (MDR Cp) isolates were identified in a large Turkish hospital from 2017-2020. We subsequently identified three additional patients infected with MDR Cp isolates in 2022 from the same hospital and two echinocandin-resistant (ECR) isolates from a single patient in another hospital.

Neutrophils are a vital component of the innate immune system and play an essential function in the recognition and clearance of bacterial and fungal pathogens. There is great interest in understanding mechanisms of neutrophil dysfunction in the setting of disease and deciphering potential side effects of immunomodulatory drugs on neutrophil function. We developed a high throughput flow cytometry-based assay for detecting changes to four canonical neutrophil functions following biological or chemical triggers.
