Occupational Therapy for Patients With Cardiovascular Disease - A Systematic Review.

Background: The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is high worldwide. Occupational therapy (OT) allows individuals to participate in activities of daily living (ADLs) and improves their quality of life. However, whether OT improves health-related quality of life (HRQOL), ADLs, fatigue, occupational performance, rehospitalization, and mortality in patients with CVD remains unclear.

Characteristics of longitudinal changes in quality of life and associated factors in patients post cardiac and thoracic aortic surgery: insights from a prospective cohort study.

Background: Although quality of life (QOL) is an outcome of postoperative cardiac rehabilitation (CR), its course and related factors from postoperative hospitalization to the post-discharge period have not been adequately investigated. Additionally, the EuroQol-5Dimension-5Level (EQ-5D-5L) index score has not been characterized over the same period. We aimed to characterize QOL changes assessed by the EQ-5D-5L, over the period from hospitalization to 1 year post-discharge, in patients post-cardiac and thoracic aortic surgery, and investigate the factors associated with these temporal changes.

Clinical Outcomes and Prevalence of Sarcopenia in Patients with Moderate to Severe COVID-19.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness and clinical outcomes of inpatient rehabilitation for patients with severe COVID-19 in Japan. Methods: Patients with severe COVID-19 who underwent rehabilitation during hospitalization were included. The Medical Research Council (MRC) score and short physical performance battery (SPPB), such as physical function assessment and the intensive care unit (ICU) mobility scale, the functional status score for the ICU, and Barthel index as activities of daily living (ADLs) were evaluated at admission and discharge or transfer from the hospital.

Clinical Perspectives on Cardiac Rehabilitation After Heart Failure in Elderly Patients with Frailty: A Narrative Review.

The purpose of this narrative review is to examine rehabilitation modalities for patients with heart failure and Frailty who require comprehensive intervention. Ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 16% of global mortality. Due to population growing and aging, the total number of heart failure patients continues to rise, a condition known as the heart failure pandemic.

Association between postoperative delirium and heart rate variability in the intensive care unit and readmissions and mortality in elderly patients with cardiovascular surgery.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between heart rate variability (HRV), a parameter of the autonomic nervous system activity (ANSA), and postoperative delirium and postoperative events. This retrospective cohort study included elderly patients aged 65 years or older who were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after cardiovascular surgery. ANSA was measured using HRV parameters for 1 h at daytime and 1 h at night-time before ICU discharge.
