Background: Oral anticoagulation (OAC) use increases the risk of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and CHADS-VASc ≥2. Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is an alternative to OAC, however data about its use in patients with prior ICH is scarce and the timing of its performance is controversial. Furthermore, the long-term outcomes in this group of patients have not been described previously.

Aims: Information about current use of finerenone in patients with heart failure (HF) finerenone in clinical practice is scarce, and its effectiveness in clinical practice in patients is scarce. We aim to assess both the baseline clinical profile and prognostic role of finerenone in patients with HF, irrespective of ejection fraction.

Methods And Results: The study is a multicentre, observational registry, including regional and tertiary hospitals.

The pathogenesis of COVID-19 warrants unravelling. Genetic polymorphism analysis may help answer the variability in disease outcome. To determine the role of KIR and HLA polymorphisms in susceptibility, progression, and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection, 458 patients and 667 controls enrolled in this retrospective observational study from April to December 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is a successful alternative to oral anticoagulants for patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, and advancements in technology have made the procedure safer and more efficient.* -
  • This study aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of an outpatient LAAO program versus a conventional hospital stay approach by analyzing 262 patients and measuring their outcomes after 30 days.* -
  • Results showed a 99.6% success rate and similar safety profiles between the outpatient and conventional groups, with the outpatient group benefiting from a shorter hospital stay, indicating potential clinical and economic advantages.*

SARS-CoV-2 infection affects the vascular endothelium, which mediates the inflammatory and thrombotic cascade. Moreover, alterations in the endothelium are related to arterial stiffness, which has been established as a marker of cardiovascular disease. The objective of this study is to analyse how the structure, vascular function, vascular ageing and endothelial damage are related to the biopsychological situation in adults diagnosed with persistent COVID and the differences by gender.
