Peri-hilar cholangiocarcinoma: results from the UK nationwide CAPBIL study.

Background: The role of liver transplantation as a treatment option for de novo resectable peri-hilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) is controversial. This study investigated the outcomes following resection of early-stage pCCA in the UK.

Methods: Patients undergoing resection for pCCA between 2014 and 2022 across 22 UK centres were included.

Working across religions, cultures, settings, and development: Protocol for wave 2 data collection with children and parents by the developing belief network.

The Developing Belief Network is a global research collaborative studying religious development in diverse social-cultural settings, with a focus on the intersection of cognitive mechanisms and cultural beliefs and practices in early and middle childhood. The current manuscript describes the study protocol for the network's second wave of data collection, which aims to further explore the development and diversity of religious cognition and behavior using a multi-time point approach. This protocol is designed to investigate three key research questions-how children represent and reason about religious and supernatural agents, how children represent and reason about religion as an aspect of social identity, and how religious and supernatural beliefs are transmitted within and between generations-via a set of eight tasks for children between the ages of 5 and 13 years and a survey completed by their parents/caregivers.

Prior contact lens wear reduces susceptibility of the superficially-injured cornea to bacterial adhesion.

Unlabelled: Contact lens wear in humans and mice is consistently associated with asymptomatic corneal parainflammation. Here, we tested the hypothesis that the corneal response to lens wear alone can function to protect it against bacterial adhesion enabled by superficial injury. One eye only of mT/mG-LysMcre mice (cell membranes red; Lyz2 cells green) wore a contact lens for 4-6 days.

Effectiveness of Community Health Worker Intervention at Dayton Children's Hospital at Decreasing Emergency Department Visits and Hospitalization Rates for Pediatric Asthma Patients.

Objective: To determine whether asthma interventions completed by the community health workers (CHWs) at Dayton Children's Hospital decrease the rate of Emergency Department (ED) visits and hospitalizations.

Methods: The data was chosen from the CHW patient population that met the inclusion criteria of at least 1 hospitalization/ED visit or Primary Care Provider referral in the twelve months prior to intervention during 2019 to 2020. The visit rates from 12 months before and after intervention were analyzed with Markov Chain Monte Carlo where the likelihood was assumed to be Poisson.

Mammographic density assessed using deep learning in women at high risk of developing breast cancer: the effect of weight change on density.

High mammographic density (MD) and excess weight are both associated with increased risk of breast cancer. Classically defined percentage density measures tend to increase with reduced weight due to disproportionate loss of breast fat, however the effect of weight loss on artificial intelligence-based density scores is unknown. We investigated an artificial intelligence-based density method, reporting density changes in 46 women enrolled in a weight-loss study in a family history breast cancer clinic, using a volumetric density method as a comparison.
