Impact of diagnostic laparoscopy on resectability and treatment strategy in FIGO III-IV ovarian cancer.

Objective: To investigate the clinical utility of diagnostic laparoscopy in guiding treatment strategy and surgical outcomes for patients with advanced-stage ovarian cancer, specifically regarding operability assessment and the likelihood of complete cytoreduction.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 183 patients with histologically confirmed International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage III-IV ovarian cancer treated with curative intent between January 2018 and December 2023 at a tertiary referral center. Patients were divided into two groups: those who underwent diagnostic laparoscopy prior to primary treatment (n = 80) and those managed without laparoscopy (n = 103).

Background: The anti-tumor response of the immune system is pivotal for treating triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), particularly as targeted therapies are limited. However, the impact of immune-modulating factors such as the application of granulocyte-stimulating factors (G-CSFs) or infections, including febrile neutropenia, prophylactic or therapeutical application of oral antibiotics (OABs), and the need for intravenous antibiotics (IABs), on survival outcomes remains unclear.

Methods: 1583 patients with early-stage TNBC enrolled in the SUCCESS A or C study underwent primary surgery, adjuvant chemotherapy, and radiotherapy if indicated.

Do We Need Anthracyclines for Elderly Patients with Triple-Negative Breast Cancer?

Objectives: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) requires chemotherapy-based systemic treatment which is usually anthracycline-based (AB). The cardiotoxicity of AB regimens is especially relevant in the elderly population. Therefore, we retrospectively compared survival and toxicity between elderly patients with early TNBC receiving AB or anthracycline-free (AF) adjuvant chemotherapy to evaluate whether elderly patients with TNBC could be spared anthracycline-related toxicity without compromising survival.

Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is a critical procedure in the management of melanoma, offering prognostic information and guiding adjuvant therapy. Glycoprotein nonmetastatic melanoma protein B (GPNMB), a melanogenesis marker, has been implicated in melanoma progression.
