Background: Loss to follow-up (LTFU) in the care of persons living with HIV hinders the effectiveness of treatment strategies and undermines global health initiatives to achieve targets such as the 95-95-95 goals. Identifying risk factors for LTFU will help develop effective interventions that enhance long-term outcomes for people living with HIV (PLWHIV). Thus, this study aimed to explore the risk factors influencing LTFU among PLWHIV in a high-burden district in Ghana.

Key populations (KPs) are particularly vulnerable to HIV infection and efforts to prevent HIV infections among KPs have been less successful, largely due to existing laws and legislation that classify the groups as illegal. Understanding the HIV infection pathway and the burden of HIV infection among Female Sex Workers (FSWs), Transgender people (TG), Men who have sex with Men (MSM), People who Inject Drugs (PWID), and Prison Inmates (PIs) is critical to combatting the HIV epidemic globally. This study aims to estimate HIV prevalence and model the risk factors of HIV positivity rate among the aforementioned KPs in Sierra Leone.

Influenza is known to cause severe respiratory illness in HIV-infected adults, but there are few data describing the relationship between HIV infection and influenza in West African countries such as Ghana. We conducted a prospective cohort study in the Shai-Osudoku and Ningo Prampram districts of Ghana from 2014 to 2016. Beginning May 2014, 266 HIV-infected and 510 HIV-uninfected participants age 18 to 73 years were enrolled and monitored for 12 months.
