Chronic kidney disease (CKD), characterized by structural or functional renal abnormalities, poses substantial health risks. With a global prevalence nearing 13 %, fewer than 10 % of affected individuals are aware of their condition. Early-stage CKD frequently goes undetected due to the lack of specific symptoms and the high costs and logistical challenges associated with traditional blood testing.

Background/purpose: Gastroparesis is a common but easily overlooked disease. Gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) is one of the third-space endoscopy techniques to treat gastroparesis. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of G-POEM for patients with refractory gastroparesis.

Article Synopsis
  • Esophageal second primary tumors (SPTs) are common in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients, but the effects of image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE) screening on their outcomes are not well understood.
  • A study analyzed over 2000 patients to evaluate the survival rates of HNC and esophageal cancer patients, highlighting the benefits of IEE screening, particularly showing better overall survival rates for HNC patients with negative IEE results.
  • The findings suggest that IEE screening is valuable for assessing risk and predicting outcomes in HNC patients, leading to the recommendation for routine IEE screening in this group.*

A metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structure containing an HfO2/SiO2 stack tunnel layer, isolated Germanium (Ge) nanocrystals, and an HfO2 capping layer, was obtained by an electron-beam evaporation method. A high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) study revealed that uniform and pronounced Ge nanocrystals had formed after annealing. Raman spectroscopy provided evidence for the formation of Ge-Ge bonds and the optimal annealing temperature for the crystallization ratio of the Ge.

Ultra-long rutile tin dioxide nanowires and nanobelts are synthesized by thermal oxidation of tin powder using gold film as the catalyst. Nanowire or nanobelts can be selectively produced by tuning the reaction temperature. The vapour-liquid-solid growth mechanism is proposed.
