Airway management strategies in a pediatric patient with MURCS association: A case report.

Background: MURCS association, an acronym for Müllerian duct aplasia/hypoplasia, congenital renal agenesis/ectopia, and cervical somite dysplasia, presents unique anaesthetic challenges, particularly for airway control due to cervical spine anomalies. This case report adds to the limited literature by detailing airway management strategies in a paediatric patient with MURCS, emphasising the need for thorough preoperative evaluation and curated planning.

Case Summary: This report describes the successful anaesthetic and airway management of a 6-year-old girl with MURCS undergoing dental extraction.

Casticin inhibits the release of synaptic vesicular glutamate from rat hippocampal nerve terminals.

The effect of casticin, major polymethoxyflavone extracted from Vitex rotundifolia, on glutamate release and its underlying mechanisms was investigated in rat hippocampal synaptosomes. Casticin inhibited 4-aminopyridine (4-AP)-evoked glutamate release, with an IC of approximately 7.2 μM.

This study aimed to evaluate whether thermal-softened ETTs reduce the postoperative sore throat incidence in patients undergoing elective surgery under GA. : We conducted a comprehensive search of the literature across PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effect of thermal-softened ETTs on postoperative sore throat in patients undergoing elective surgeries under GA.

Cynarin protects against seizures and neuronal death in a rat model of kainic acid-induced seizures.

The potential therapeutic value of cynarin, a phenolic compound derived from artichoke, in treating epilepsy has not yet been reported. The present study evaluated the effects of cynarin on a kainic acid (KA)-induced seizure rat model and its potential mechanism. Cynarin was administered through oral gavage at a dosage of 10 mg kg daily for 7 days before the induction of seizures with KA (15 mg kg) intraperitoneal injection.

Human carboxylesterase 2A (CES2A) plays a crucial role in the hydrolysis and metabolic activation of esters and amides. There is increasing evidence that development of CES2A inhibitors to modulate the hydrolysis of ester drugs will increase the potency of these drugs or reduce their side effects. In this study, three sets of indole analogues (4a-j, 5a-k, 6a-e) were designed and synthesized.

Reduction in presynaptic glutamate release and the prevention of glutamate excitotoxicity by lupeol in rats.

This study aimed to investigate whether lupeol, a pentacyclic triterpenoid, affects glutamate release in isolated nerve terminals (synaptosomes) from the rat cerebral cortex and whether lupeol affects the excitotoxicity induced by kainic acid (KA) in rats. In rat cerebrocortical synaptosomes, lupeol reduced glutamate release in a manner that could be blocked by extracellular Ca-free medium or P/Q-type Ca channel antagonism. The synaptosomal membrane potential was not affected by lupeol treatment.

Albiflorin Decreases Glutamate Release from Rat Cerebral Cortex Nerve Terminals (Synaptosomes) through Depressing P/Q-Type Calcium Channels and Protein Kinase A Activity.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether and how albiflorin, a natural monoterpene glycoside, affects the release of glutamate, one of the most important neurotransmitters involved in neurotoxicity, from cerebrocortical nerve terminals (synaptosomes) in rats. The results showed that albiflorin reduced 4-aminopyridine (4-AP)-elicited glutamate release from synaptosomes, which was abrogated in the absence of extracellular Ca or in the presence of the vesicular glutamate transporter inhibitor or a P/Q-type Ca channel inhibitor, indicating a mechanism of action involving Ca-dependent depression of vesicular exocytotic glutamate release. Albiflorin failed to alter the increase in the fluorescence intensity of 3,3-diethylthiacarbocyanine iodide (DiSC(5)), a membrane-potential-sensitive dye.

Remimazolam is a newly developed sedative agent. The results of previous meta-analyses highlight the strengths of remimazolam for use during colonoscopy procedures. The primary aim of the present study was to investigate whether, in patients undergoing colonoscopy procedures (P), the use of remimazolam (I) compared with other sedative agents (C) could lead to a greater incidence of hypotension, bradycardia, and hypoxia (O).

Misdiagnosed as Fungal Keratitis: Herpes Simplex Virus-1 Keratitis Confirmed by Next-Generation Sequencing.

The purpose of this study was to report a case of herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) keratitis misdiagnosed as fungal keratitis due to its clinical presentation being similar to that of fungal keratitis, ultimately diagnosed by NGS. A 59-year-old male presented with reduced vision in the right eye, combined with a history of trauma with vegetative matter. The corneal ulcer was accompanied with feathery infiltration, satellite lesion, and endothelial plaques.

Gypenoside XVII Reduces Synaptic Glutamate Release and Protects against Excitotoxic Injury in Rats.

Excitotoxicity is a common pathological process in neurological diseases caused by excess glutamate. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of gypenoside XVII (GP-17), a gypenoside monomer, on the glutamatergic system. In vitro, in rat cortical nerve terminals (synaptosomes), GP-17 dose-dependently decreased glutamate release with an IC value of 16 μM.
