Introduction: Outerbridge-Kashiwagi ulnohumeral arthroplasty is an effective method in treating elbow osteoarthritis; however, distal humerus fracture after surgery can become a critical issue. A previous biomechanical study has shown that the failure load of the distal humerus decreases after a fenestration, but the size of the fenestration hole has not yet been discussed.
Materials And Methods: 32 fresh-frozen cadaveric distal humeri were obtained.
Acetaminophen poisoning increases cytochrome P450 2E1 expression and reactive oxygen species production, which may lead to maladaptive myocardial remodeling and congestive heart failure (CHF). We conducted a nationwide cohort study to investigate the incidence and risk of CHF in patients with acetaminophen poisoning. We identified a cohort of adult patients with newly diagnosed acetaminophen poisoning in the inpatient claims of the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database for the 1998-2011 period.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is associated with systemic inflammation and may have a similar pathogenesis as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, to date, studies on the association between AD and OSA are limited.
Objectives: This study evaluated the association between OSA and AD in children in a large-scale, population-based cohort.

The purpose of this nationwide cohort study was to investigate the incidence and risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with acetaminophen (APAP) poisoning. We identified the patients with APAP poisoning and randomly selected comparison patients according to a 1:4 ratio, matching them by age, sex, and the index year using data from the National Health Insurance Research Database from 2000 to 2010. We traced both cohorts until a diagnosis of CAD, loss to follow-up, or the end of 2011.

Purpose: To investigate the association of dyslipidemia with the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR).
Design: A prospective cohort from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database in Taiwan.
Participants: Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) aged ≥18 years from this cohort.
The association between anti-tuberculosis (TB) treatments and the risk of developing hyperlipidemia remains unclear. Data were obtained from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2000 (LHID2000). The case group included patients newly diagnosed with hyperlipidemia (n=16,054) between 2006 and 2011 selected from the LHID2000.

Methods: We identified 10,911 patients who received an ACOS diagnosis and concurrent treatment between January 2000 and December 2009. Subjects without ACOS were included in the non-ACOS cohort (n = 10,911).
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties among the different double Krackow suture techniques for tendon graft fixation.
Methods: Thirty porcine flexor profundus tendons were randomly divided into 3 groups of 10 specimens each. Three different double Krackow suture techniques were evaluated, namely, the McKeon's double Krackow (MDK) suture, Wilson's double Krackow (WDK) suture, and Ostrander's modified Krackow (OMK) suture.
The purpose of the study was to assess the relationship between selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors use and hepatocellular carcinoma in Taiwan. Using the database of the Taiwan National Health Insurance Program, we conducted a case-control study to identify 4901 subjects aged 20 years and more with newly diagnosed hepatocellular carcinoma in 2000-2013 as the cases. We randomly selected 19604 subjects aged 20 years and more without hepatocellular carcinoma as the controls.

This study aimed to investigate the association between DPP-4 inhibitors use and the first episode of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. We designed a case-control study using the database of the Taiwan National Health Insurance Program.

This study compared the survival between incident hemodialysis (HD) and PD patients, with and without diabetes, in the era of icodextrin treatment.
Methods: From the Taiwan health insurance database, 53,103 incident end-stage renal disease patients undergoing dialysis were identified from 2005 to 2010.

Background/objective: Tuberculosis (TB) and depression were major public health issues worldwide and the mutual causative relationships between them were not exhaustive. This study was performed to explore the association between depression, comorbidities, and the risk of pulmonary TB in Taiwan.
Methods: The cohort study used the database of the Taiwan National Health Insurance Program.
Purpose: In patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD), two main options exist to guide management: initial invasive coronary angiography (CAG), or selective CAG after risk stratification using myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). This study compared clinical outcomes between these two strategies in a large, real-world population.
Methods: The initial cohort comprised 1,000,000 randomly selected patients who had been entered in the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan between 2000 and 2011.
Background And Aims: Inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) are crucial anti-inflammatory medications for chronic airway diseases. Studies investigating the relationship between ICSs and fractures in Asian populations are scant. We investigated whether ICSs increased the risk of low-energy fractures in patients with chronic airway diseases.

Previous studies showed that zolpidem use could be associated with increased cancer risk, but the role of zolpidem on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk remains undetermined. The study purpose was to examine the association between HCC risk and zolpidem use in Taiwan. Using the database from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Program, we designed a case-control study which consisted of 77986 subjects aged 20 years or older with newly diagnosed HCC as the case group, and 77986 subjects without HCC as the control group, from 2000 to 2011.

Methods: We analyzed the Taiwan National Health Insurance claims data (2000-2010) of 6031 patients with PKD and 23,976 non-PKD hospitalized controls. The control cohort was propensity score matched with the PKD cohort at a 1:4 ratio.
Background: The outcomes of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) receiving radical nephroureterectomy were usually limited to small sample size, case-control studies, and often focused on cancer progression. Risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in these patients was never investigated.
Results: The overall incidences of AMI were 3.

Background: This study was conducted to evaluate the risk of developing acute pancreatitis (AP) and the fatality from AP in hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, using the claims data of Taiwan National Health Insurance.
Methods: From patients with newly diagnosed end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in 2000-2010, we identified a PD cohort ( = 9,766), a HD cohort ( = 18,841), and a control cohort ( = 114,386) matched by sex, age, and the diagnosis year of the PD cohort. We also established another 2 cohorts with 9,744 PD patients and 9,744 propensity score-matched HD patients.
