Background: Pain assessment in palliative care is essential, but differences between patient-reported and clinician-assessed pain can affect care decisions. Identifying factors contributing to these differences can improve pain management.
Aim: To investigate the clinical and symptom-related factors associated with variations between patient-reported and clinician-assessed pain among patients admitted to a palliative care ward.
Physical restraint for patients approaching their end of life may induce distress and impair dignity. Limited studies have been reported on the frequency and factors influencing restraint application during terminal phases of patients in hospital settings. We aimed to study the occurrence and factors that predict utilization of physical restraints in hospitalized terminally-ill adults.

Notably, sex disparities in oral health on clinical outcomes remain an often underappreciated aspect. This study aims to investigate the association between oral function, assessed using the bedside oral examination (BOE), and in-hospital mortality, with an emphasis on sex-specific differences.

Methods: Musculoskeletal pain, burnout, and depression were assessed using validated Chinese versions of the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, and Brief Symptom Rating Scale. Multivariate logistic regression analyzed correlations, adjusting for confounders.
Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a growing concern among older adults, increasing the risk of frailty, and functional decline. In Taiwan, the convergence of population aging and high diabetes prevalence calls for innovative care strategies. This study evaluated the effectiveness of incorporating wearable step-count devices into the diabetic pay-for-performance (P4P) program to enhance physical activity and explore associations with related health outcomes.

Objective: This study aimed to implement and evaluate a comprehensive telehealth system to monitor vital signs using e-NEWS for patients receiving integrated home-based medical care (iHBMC).

To rapidly acquire fiber phenotypic data for wood quality assessment, we used a portable NIR spectro-meter to collect spectral data in 100 individuals of at 18-year-old of 20 different provenances, and simultaneously collected wood cores. Wood basic density and the anatomical structure of wood fiber were measured. The standard normal variate (SNV), orthogonal signal correction (OSC), and multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) methods were used for spectral preprocessing, the competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) method were used for wavelength selection, and the partial least squares regression (PLSR) model were established.

Background: Spiritual care plays a significant role in holistic patient care, addressing not only physical ailments but also attending to patients' emotional and spiritual well-being. While the importance of spiritual care in nursing is widely recognized, there is often a gap in understanding nurses' willingness to provide such care. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore the association between self-efficacy, spiritual well-being, and willingness to provide spiritual care among nursing staff.

Introduction: Both frailty and prefrailty (PF) are related to mortality. However, there is no consensus about the PF subtypes for prediction of the mortality risk. We aimed to compare the 5-year mortality of functionally independent geriatric outpatients with nonfrailty, different PF subtypes and frailty.

By incorporating cognitive and physical function assessment, this study aimed to evaluate prevalence and factors associated with cognitive and physical dysfunction in older diabetic people.
Methods: The cross-sectional study was performed from August 1, 2017 to November 30, 2018.

Visits by older people to the Emergency Department (ED) have increased in recent decades with higher revisiting and admission rates after discharge, particularly for those with frailties. This study used a before-after design aimed at evaluating Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) screening in older ED patients (aged ≥ 75 years) during the 12-month preintervention period. Additionally, a CGA-based structured follow-up program after ED discharge was executed during the next 12-month intervention period.

Background: Day care service (DCS) provides various activities in a professional environment to meet the old people with functional limitations. However, relatively little is known about the effects of DCS on physical and mental functions.
Methods: This was a retrospective study that we used a comprehensive geriatric assessment to evaluate the changes before and after DCS among participants in a hospital-affiliated geriatric day care center in Taiwan.

We evaluated the predictability of self-reported Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) assessed by the 3-level 5-dimensional Euro-Quality of Life tool (EQ-5D-3L) and the EQ-Visual Analog Scale (EQ-VAS) on clinical outcomes of elderly patients who were admitted to an acute geriatric ward. A total of 102 participants (56.9% men) with a median age of 81.

Poor or excessive EVT migration is associated with pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia or placenta accreta. Glial cells missing 1 (GCM1) transcription factor is essential for placental development, and decreased GCM1 activity is detected in preeclampsia.
