Healthcare can be, we believe, the vanguard to lead us to a more just society but has much work to do. Quality improvement (QI) processes drive care delivery based on metrics and reporting requirements, but equity is not a commonly used QI measure, and the extent of inequitable care affecting patients is unclear at best. While quality metrics can provide benchmarks for healthcare based on published evidence, quality metric standards that do not consider healthcare equity will not lead to the provision of equitable, patient-centered care.

Background and objective Disparities in outcomes for pediatric patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in rural populations and for racial and ethnic minority groups have been documented. In light of this, we examined physician champions' perceptions of healthcare equity for hospitalized children with TBI. Methods We surveyed 10 physician TBI champions at 10 US pediatric trauma centers (PTCs) regarding organizational characteristics, barriers, and facilitators (domains and specific) in terms of improving healthcare equity, and priorities to redress inequities.

Background: School Resource Officer (SRO) programs do not reduce school violence and increase school discipline. We describe the use of a culturally responsive framework to form a school community collaborative among students, parents, staff, administrators, and law enforcement to reform an SRO program, promote school safety, and reduce punitive measures.

Methods: Members of a participating school district, a local county, and a university collaborated.

Background: Refugees have a high prevalence of obesity post resettlement, but few studies have compared their risk of obesity to those of the host population. We systematically investigated the association between refugee status and obesity after resettlement in a high-income nation.

Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, OpenGrey and bibliographies of retrieved articles, with no date, location, and language restrictions, for observational studies assessing obesity rates in resettled refugees compared to the host population.
