Diagnosing Atypical Parkinsonian Syndromes (APS) may be challenging due to overlapping clinical features of Parkinson's disease (PD), and the lack of pathognomonic diagnostic tests. Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a chronic, often disabling hyperkinetic movement disorder associated with prolonged use of dopamine receptor blocking agents (DRBAs), particularly antipsychotics (APs) for psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It manifests as abnormal, involuntary movements, often involving the orofacial region, extremities, or trunk, and is associated with significant physical and psychosocial impairment. TD is primarily linked to dopamine receptor hypersensitivity, oxidative stress, and genetic susceptibility, with a higher prevalence in patients treated with first-generation APs.

The term 'endemic parkinsonism' refers to diseases that manifest with a dominant parkinsonian syndrome, which can be typical or atypical, and are present only in a particular geographically defined location or population. Ten phenotypes of endemic parkinsonism are currently known: three in the Western Pacific region; two in the Asian-Oceanic region; one in the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique; and four in Europe. Some of these disease entities seem to be disappearing over time and therefore are probably triggered by unique environmental factors.

Methods: This retrospective population study included all the outpatients that underwent at least two carotid ultrasonographies at our laboratory from 2001 to 2017. Demographic data, vascular risk factors, and the results at follow-up were analysed to determine if correlations exist between these risk factors and variation in carotid atherosclerosis.
Background: the study of movement disorders associated with oncological diseases and anticancer treatments highlights the wide range of differential diagnoses that need to be considered. In this context, the role of immune-mediated conditions is increasingly recognized and relevant, as they represent treatable disorders.
Methods: we reappraise the phenomenology, pathophysiology, diagnostic testing, and treatment of movement disorders observed in the context of brain tumors, paraneoplastic conditions, and cancer immunotherapy, such as immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).
