The purpose of this study was to determine whether beta-adrenergically mediated cardiovascular functions such as arterial pressure (AP), heart rate (HR), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), peripheral resistance (R(p)), arterial impedance (Z(c)), mean arterial compliance (C(m)) and pulse wave reflection (P(b)) were altered in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) compared to the normotensive Wistar Kyoto rat (WKY). In pentobarbital-anesthetized and artificially ventilated rats, the aortic pressure wave was recorded with a high-fidelity Millar sensor, and aortic flow wave with an electromagnetic flow probe. The pressure and flow waves were subjected to Fourier transform so as to analyze impedance spectra.

According to the requirement of channel research, a system for the measurement of skin impedance had been designed and a series of experiments to check the reliability of this system had also been done. The facts demonstrated that the pressure exerted by the exploring electrode, the duration of switch-on as well as the number of times of repeated measurements all showed no conspicuous influences on the skin impedance. The results are stable and reliable.

C-reactive protein (CRP), an acute-phase plasma protein of hepatic origin in man and rabbit, is a cyclic pentamer composed of five identical nonglycosylated Mr 22 500 subunits. We have isolated both cDNA and genomic clones for rabbit CRP. These clones were used as probes to demonstrate that when CRP synthesis is increased following an acute inflammatory stimulus, there is a corresponding increase in the level of accumulated CRP mRNA.
