Ca Inhibits Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenging in Naked Mole-Rat Cortical Homogenates.

Deleterious perturbations in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and calcium (Ca) handling are key initiators of cell death in hypoxia-intolerant mammalian brain. Elevated cellular Ca can also inhibit ROS scavengers, exacerbating the deleterious impact of hypoxia on redox homeostasis. Conversely, such perturbations are typically absent in the brain of hypoxia-tolerant animals, including naked mole-rats (NMRs; Heterocephalus glaber), in which a remarkable ability to scavenge ROS has been observed in cardiac and skeletal muscle.

Advancing equity, diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility in primary care: The development of an integrated educational experience model.

This article presents the development of the Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility (EDIA) Cross-Cutting Theme Project within the Team Primary Care (TPC) initiative, aimed at addressing systemic inequities through innovative educational strategies. Grounded in the social accountability of health professions framework, this project aims to equip primary care teams with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to promote health equity. The EDIA Integrated Educational Experience (IEE) model includes a self-assessment tool, digital learning space, and national mentorship network, providing a comprehensive approach for primary care teams to promote health equity.
