Assessing accuracy of estimated dry weight in dialysis patients post transplantation: the kidney knows best.

Introduction: Estimated dry weight is used to guide fluid removal during outpatient hemodialysis sessions. Errors in estimated dry weight can result in intradialytic hypotension and interdialytic fluid overload. The goal of this study was to assess the accuracy of estimated dry weight by comparing it to the 2-week post-transplant weight in two cohorts of hemodialysis patients.

Clinical Risk Factors for Infective Endocarditis in Bacteremia.

Crucial to the management of staphylococcal bacteremia is an accurate evaluation of associated endocarditis, which has both therapeutic and prognostic implications. Because the clinical presentation of endocarditis can be nonspecific, the judicious use of echocardiography is important in distinguishing patients at high risk of developing endocarditis. In the presence of high-risk clinical features, an early transesophageal echocardiogram is warranted without prior transthoracic echocardiography.

A Rare Case of Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder in Patient with Sjogren's Syndrome.

We report a 48-year-old female with the history of Sjogren's syndrome who presented with 3-week history of tingling, numbness, and shooting back, waist, and bilateral leg pain and numbness in the pelvic region with urinary and bowel incontinence. Physical examination was remarkable for reduced motor power in both lower extremities with spasticity. Sensory deficit was noted at the T6 level.
