Teamwork effectiveness in intensive care units: development and validation of a brief and reliable assessment tool (TES-ICU).

Background: Effective teamwork is essential for patient safety and quality of care in intensive care units (ICUs), where complexity, high cognitive demands, and multidisciplinary collaboration prevail. Despite its critical role, there is a lack of validated instruments specifically designed to assess teamwork effectiveness in ICUs. This study aimed to develop and validate a context-specific tool-the Teamwork Effectiveness Scale in Intensive Care Units (TES-ICU).

Evaluation of the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients admitted to intensive care units after the Kahramanmaras (Türkiye) earthquake: a multicenter observational study.

Introduction: The outcomes of patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) after earthquakes that occurred on the 6th of February 2023 in Türkiye are unknown. Our objective was to delineate the demographic and clinical characteristics, therapeutic approaches, and ICU outcomes of earthquake victims who were hospitalized in Turkish ICUs.

Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter study of adult patients admitted to 12 ICUs across eight tertiary hospitals located in five different cities within 2 weeks after consecutive earthquakes.

Infections among adults hospitalized in intensive care after the 2023 earthquake in the southeastern part of Türkiye: a multi-center observational study.

Background: Scarce evidence is available on the epidemiology of microbiologically proven clinical infections in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after a great earthquake. The main aim of this study was to assess clinical infections and microbiological features in patients admitted to the ICU following the 2023 earthquake in the southeastern region of Türkiye with a focus on the timing of culture positivity during their ICU stay. The secondary objectives included determining antibiotic susceptibility patterns, identifying the types of antibiotics administered upon ICU admission, evaluating the appropriateness of antibiotic usage, assessing patient outcomes, and identifying factors that influence microbiologically confirmed clinical infections.

Effects of coenzyme Q10 in a propofol infusion syndrome model of rabbits.

Background: Coenzyme Q (CoQ) might be the main site of interaction with propofol on the mitochondrial respiratory chain in the propofol infusion syndrome (PRIS) because of the structural similarity between coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and propofol.

Aim: To investigate the effects of CoQ10 on survival and organ injury in a PRIS model in rabbits.

Methods: Sixteen male New Zealand white rabbits were divided into 4 groups: (1) propofol infusion group, (2) propofol infusion and CoQ10, 100 mg/kg was administered intravenously, (3) sevoflurane inhalation was administered, and (4) sevoflurane inhalation and CoQ10, 100 mg/kg intravenously, was administered.

Background: While physicians tend to emphasize on physical medical problems, behavioral and cognitive disorders of geriatric patients are usually missed, especially in emergency settings. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of delirium, dementia, and depression (3D) among older patients (≥65 years old) in the Emergency Department (ED) and to evaluate the effect of geriatric 3D on the 6-month and 5-year mortality.

Methods: This was a prospective, observational cohort study, including 415 patients from eligible 512 consecutive older patients, who are 65 years of age or older, presenting to the ED of a tertiary care university hospital.

Elevated intracranial pressure (ICP), a disadvantage of laparoscopic surgery, is caused by the Trendelenburg position (TP) and CO pneumoperitoneum (PP). This study aimed to evaluate TP and PP associated changes in ICP by ONSD measurements during LH.

The Relevance of Fluid and Blood Management Using Microcirculatory Parameters in Children Undergoing Craniofacial Surgery.

Perioperative management of bleeding in children can be challenging. Microvascular imaging techniques have allowed evaluating the effect of blood transfusion on the microcirculation, but little is known about these effects in children. We aimed to investigate the effects of blood management using macro- and micro-hemodynamic parameters measurement in children undergoing craniofacial surgery.

Maternal Mortality: 10 Year Experience of a Tertiary Center in Turkey.

We retrospectively evaluated five maternal mortality cases that occurred in our institution within the last 10 years. Rate of maternal mortality was 24.5 per 100000 live births.
