Polyphenols, a diverse group of naturally occurring compounds found in plants, have garnered significant attention for their potential therapeutic properties in treating neurodegenerative diseases (NDs). The Wnt/β-catenin (WβC) signaling pathway, a crucial player in neurogenesis, neuronal survival, and synaptic plasticity, is involved in several cellular mechanisms related to NDs. Dysregulation of this pathway is a hallmark in the development of various NDs.

Induction of mycobacterial efflux pumps is a cause of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) drug tolerance, a barrier to shortening antitubercular treatment. Verapamil inhibits Mtb efflux pumps that mediate tolerance to rifampin, a cornerstone of tuberculosis (TB) treatment. Verapamil's mycobacterial efflux pump inhibition also limits Mtb growth in macrophages in the absence of antibiotic treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The accumulation of non-degradable plastics is causing global environmental pollution, highlighting the need for eco-friendly alternatives like poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) to replace petroleum-based plastics.
  • In Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, a region facing environmental challenges from chicken feather waste, the study explored using this waste as a substrate for PHB production.
  • The research identified a potent bacterial isolate, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which was able to produce a significant yield of PHB under optimized conditions, demonstrating the potential of poultry waste as a sustainable and cost-effective nitrogen source in bioprocess technology.

The present investigation reports a simple, rapid, inexpensive, and eco-friendly approach for synthesizing Amphiroa rigida-mediated silver nanoparticles (AR-AgNPs) for the first time. The biomimetic synthesized AR-AgNPs were characterized by both spectral and microscopic analysis. The UV-visible spectrum showed the surface plasmon peak at 420 nm, which indicated the formation of AR-AgNPs.

Organic molecule dithiocarbamate transition metal complexes are novel and very attractive pharmaceutical targets for the management and control of antibiotic resistant bacteria. The direct reaction has synthesized new transition metal nickel (II), copper (II) complexes of potassium morpholine dithiocarbamate (KCHNOS ) ligands and characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), as well as NMR physicochemical techniques. Antibacterial bioefficacy of the ligand and its metal complexes has been investigated on the growth of Gram-positive ( MTCC 737, MTCC 1272) and the Gram-negative ( MTCC 657, MTCC 1457) bacteria.
