Background: Patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) treated with (chemo)-radiotherapy before abdominoperineal resection (APR) are at high risk of developing pelvic organ/space surgical site infection (O/S-SSI). This increases morbidity and prolongs length of stay. Vague symptoms delay diagnosis.
