Case report: anaplasma-related myocardial damage in a dog.

We present the case of a female dog that was evaluated following an episode of heart failure and was subsequently diagnosed with anaplasmosis. Cardiac assessment revealed evidence of myocardial injury, systolic dysfunction, and conduction system abnormalities. This case highlights the importance of considering infection as a potential cause of myocarditis, especially in instances of unexplained heart failure and elevated troponin levels in the absence of other underlying conditions.

Case report of an incidental left coronary artery to main pulmonary artery fistula in a dog.

A vascular communication between the left coronary artery and the main pulmonary artery (coronary fistula) was incidentally diagnosed in a 3-year-old female Tatran hound during a pre-anesthetic evaluation using echocardiography. Trauma and endocarditis were not suspected given the patient's history, clinical examination, and diagnostic imaging, which could have contributed to the development of this condition. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed dilation of the left coronary ostium, and continuous shunting on color and spectral Doppler was observed and this led to the diagnosis of coronary artery fistula.

Prevalence of haemotropic mycoplasmas and blood piroplasmids in domestic and wild ruminants in Slovakia, Central Europe.

Some piroplasmids and haemotropic mycoplasmas are important pathogens affecting domestic and wild animals, leading to various clinical symptoms and economic losses. This study aimed to determine, for the first time, the prevalence of haemotropic mycoplasmas and / species in domestic and wild ruminants in Slovakia, Central Europe. Blood samples from cattle, goats, and sheep ( = 549) and liver samples from red deer ( = 43) were collected across Slovakia between 2008 and 2024.

Relationship between FGF 23, SDMA, Urea, Creatinine and Phosphate in Relation to Feline Chronic Kidney Disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common diagnosis in older cats, and its prevalence increases with age. Conventional indirect biomarkers of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) have their limitations, and are not efficient in detecting early decreases in glomerular filtration rate. Recently, symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) concentrations have been proposed as a novel biomarker of GFR for the early detection of CKD.

A Survey of Intestinal Helminths of Dogs in Slovakia with an Emphasis on Zoonotic Species.

Dogs are the most popular pets worldwide; however, close contact with people increases the risk of transmission of different zoonotic parasites. This study aims to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminths in dogs in Slovakia. A total of 495 faecal samples collected from pet, shelter, guard, working (police), and hunting dogs, as well as dogs from segregated Roma settlements between 2016 and 2021, were examined using flotation and molecular methods.
