Population ecology and herd dynamics of blue bull Boselaphus tragocamelus in forest and agrarian lands of district Ludhiana Punjab.

Blue bull (Boselaphus tragocamelus) is one of the largest antelope species and native to the Indian subcontinent. The blue bull population is surplus in some Indian states, and has attained pest status. The information regarding animal population ecology helps in understanding the ecosystem health, climate change impact and plays a pivotal role in devising conservation policies, mitigating human-animal conflict, and resource management.

Studies on bromadiolone resistance in Rattus rattus populations from Punjab, India.

There are several reports on development of resistance to bromadiolone in different species of rodents around the globe, however, there is no such report involving systematic study from India. Hence, present study was carried out to investigate current status of bromadiolone resistance in house rat (Rattus rattus; n=154) collected from different poultry farms (n=8) based on feeding test, blood clotting response (BCR) test and molecular characterization of VKORC1 gene. Based on feeding test and BCR test, 28% rats were suspected to be resistant.

ATP-reactive sites in terminase and its subunits have been successfully identified using three different affinity analogs of ATP (2-and 8-azidoATP and FITC) GpA, the larger subunit of terminase, was shown to have a higher affinity for these analogs than gpNu1, the smaller subunit. The suitability of these reagents as affinity analogs of ATP was demonstrated by ATP protection experiments and in vitro assays done with the modified proteins. These analogs were thus shown to modify the ATP-reactive sites.
