The International Alliance for Biological Standardization (IABS), in collaboration with the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) convened a hybrid meeting on 22-23 October 2024 at the WOAH Headquarters (HQ) in Paris, France to discuss the global state of vaccination and surveillance for high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) in poultry. The primary objective of the meeting was to advance vaccination acceptance to both control virus spread and reduce disease. Vaccination is increasingly recognized as a tool to complement biosecurity, movement controls and stamping-out of infected flocks.

In solid tumours, malignant cells develop relationships with nonmalignant stromal cells to support tumour growth, tissue structure, and nutrient supply. In a recent issue of this journal, Zheng and Guo catalogue the cellular landscape in chordoma using a combination of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics. Despite the mesenchymal nature of chordoma, malignant cells retain expression of epithelial markers, in addition to mesenchymal, partial-EMT, and stem-cell signatures.

In May 2022, a national control program targeting porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus was launched in Denmark, and the first regions are approaching a PRRS-free status. Background: Antisocial personality disorder is a major health and social problem, but scepticism about its treatability has restricted development of the evidence base for psychological treatments. Mentalisation-based treatment (MBT) tailored for antisocial personality disorder (MBT-ASPD) can address problematic behaviours by improving the ability to understand and regulate the negative effects of thoughts and feelings. Our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development and evolution have evolved rapidly over recent years, and the variation from one patient to another is now widely recognized. Consequently, one-size-fits-all approaches to the treatment of cancer have been superseded by precision medicines that target specific disease characteristics, promising maximum clinical efficacy, minimal safety concerns, and reduced economic burden. Large blooms of the dinoflagellate cause annual harmful algal bloom events, or "red tides" on Florida's Gulf Coast. The protein kinase PKN2 is required for embryonic development and PKN2 knockout mice die as a result of failure in the expansion of mesoderm, cardiac development and neural tube closure. This case report demonstrates an unusual complication of bacterial rhinosinusitis, causing orbital compartment syndrome from a presumed barotrauma. We postulate that the patient developed unilateral optic neuropathy, as a result of orbital compartment syndrome, secondary to orbital subperiosteal abscess following direct communication with the ethmoid sinus initiated by barotrauma. It is supported by evidence of a bony dehiscence on the lamina papyracea of the medial orbital wall with sudden onset of pain, proptosis and visual symptoms during flight.

In pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), differentiation of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) into myofibroblast-like cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) can both promote and suppress tumor progression. Here, we show that the Rho effector protein kinase N2 (PKN2) is critical for PSC myofibroblast differentiation. Loss of PKN2 is associated with reduced PSC proliferation, contractility, and alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) stress fibers.
