Background: The quality of real-world data (RWD) directly impacts the value of real-world evidence (RWE) generated for regulatory decision-making. Data owners and investigators must be prepared to provide documentation on data quality assessments to regulators when submitting secondary data for regulatory purposes. While robust feasibility is required to justify the relevance of a data source for a specific research question, the reliability of the data, including the chain of custody and data journey prior to reaching the end user, is of equal importance for drawing valid, meaningful conclusions.

Objectives: We aimed to determine whether the occurrence of early-onset toxicities due to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in treatment-naive patients undergoing their first cycle of FOLFOX/FOLFIRINOX was associated with decreased overall survival, increased risk of treatment cessation, and hospitalization.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study using patient information from community oncology practices. Patients who received their first dose of 5-FU from 1 January 2015 through 1 August 2023 were included.

Article Synopsis
  • - The collaboration aimed to analyze real-world data (RWD) to better understand treatment responses in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) patients, particularly focusing on the challenges of assessing real-world treatment outcomes.
  • - A retrospective observational study was conducted using data from several electronic health record companies that included information from 200 patients treated with a standard chemotherapy protocol, assessing key response metrics such as real-world response rate and overall survival.
  • - Results indicated that while clinician assessments were consistent across data sources, there was variability in imaging data and the duration of response; overall, the study confirmed the potential to harmonize diverse data sources for evaluating treatment responses in mNSCLC patients.

Introduction: Findings from the National College Health Assessment (2019) stated that anxiety and depression are the most prevalent diagnosed mental illnesses among Canadian postsecondary students with one-fifth of students self-reporting a lifetime diagnosis. Psychotropic medications can be an important component of a multifaceted approach to the management and treatment of mental illness and are the most commonly dispensed via community pharmacies. Community pharmacies provide an opportunity for pharmacists to have a prominent role in supporting patients' psychotropic medication management.
