Purpose: We postulated that PANVAC™, a recombinant poxviral vector vaccine, could enhance the immunologic and clinical response to an additional induction course of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) in patients with recurrent high-grade non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC).
Methods: This was a randomized, open-label, prospective, phase II study in subjects with high-grade NMIBC who had failed at least 1 induction course of intravesical BCG. Patients were randomized to either BCG alone or BCG+PANVAC.
Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) categorizes early-stage urothelial carcinoma that has not invaded the bladder's muscle layer. Although it is initially treatable with transurethral resection, NMIBC has a high risk of recurrence and progression, which necessitates prolonged surveillance and intravesical therapies. Intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), originally developed as a tuberculosis vaccine, has proven effective in reducing recurrence and delaying progression in NMIBC.

Materials And Methods: SEPTA was a multicenter trial validating Stockholm3 in a racially/ethnically diverse population of men meeting local care guidelines for prostate biopsy (2019-2023). In total, 2115 (98%) men with complete data for risk calculators and biomarkers were included.
Prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis remains a complex field of study. Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) technology presents opportunities to enhance diagnostic precision. While recent advances in imaging and biopsy techniques show promise, the oncological implications of prebiopsy magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and combination biopsy (ComBx) are not fully understood.

Methods: A 22-item questionnaire was e-mailed to members of the American Urological Association.
Transl Cancer Res
November 2024
Background And Objective: The role of focal therapy in the treatment of localized prostate cancer is evolving. However, despite accumulating evidence, current guidelines and regulatory bodies refrain from endorsing focal therapy outside of clinical trials. Our goal was the to review the focal therapy realm for ongoing clinical trials and high impact recently published trials.

Methods: A prospectively managed database included men with localized prostate cancer who underwent prostate ablation during January 2018-August 2023. Patients received either whole or partial-gland ablation using 1 of 3 energy modalities: cryotherapy, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), or Irreversible electroporation (IRE).
Purpose: The use of immediate postoperative intravesical chemotherapy (IVC) following transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) has been shown to reduce the rate of recurrence of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer. Historically, utilization of IVC following TURBT has been low. We sought to determine the rate of immediate postoperative IVC following TURBT, as well as assess factors that may influence its use.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients from two tertiary care centres who had solid organ transplantation and were diagnosed with prostate cancer before or after organ transplantation. Data collected included demographics and clinical information.
Introduction: Current guidelines endorse the use of perioperative chemotherapy (POC) in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) to enhance the long-term overall survival (OS) compared to radical cystectomy (RC) alone. This study aims to assess the impact of POC on the OS in frail and morbid (F-M) patients undergoing RC.
Methods: A retrospective multicenter study of 291 patients who underwent RC between 2015 and 2019 was performed.
Urol Oncol
December 2024
Purpose: Radical cystectomy is a highly morbid procedure with short term perioperative complications rates cited to be as high as 60%. Short term perioperative complications have been demonstrated to be more frequent in underweight and overweight patients. We sought to evaluate the impact of metabolic syndrome on surgical outcomes.

We report a remarkable case of a 14-month-old female with an 8 cm right renal mass, accompanied by disseminated bone metastases, posing intricate clinical and histopathological dilemmas. Initial suspicion leaned towards clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK), however, subsequent histological examination post-chemotherapy revealed high-grade osteosarcoma and further differential considerations arose, including primary renal osteosarcoma and osseous osteosarcoma with secondary renal involvement.

We aimed to determine the prevalence of hypogonadism in men undergoing RN and whether hypogonadism and frailty are associated with adverse postoperative outcomes.
Methods: We identified men undergoing RN between 2012 and 2021 using the IBM Marketscan database.
Urothelial carcinoma of the bladder remains a challenging disease to treat. Intravesical instillation of BCG has demonstrated tremendous efficacy in preventing recurrence. BCG related necrotizing granulomatous epididymo-orchitis is rare and has not been previously linked to brachytherapy for adenocarcinoma of the prostate.

This study assesses the impact of PCN presence on standard intended NAC quality, its related complications and outcome after radical cystectomy (RC).
Materials And Methods: The study comprises a retrospective, multicenter cohort of 193 consecutive RCs performed between 2016 and 2019.
We sought to quantify the additive value of systematic biopsy (SB) using in-bore magnetic resonance (MR)-guided prostate biopsy (IBMRGpB) by retrospectively reviewing the records of 189 patients who underwent IBMRGpB for suspected prostate cancer or as part of the surveillance protocol for previously diagnosed prostate cancer. The endpoints included clinically significant and non-clinically significant cancer diagnosis. SB detected clinically significant disease in 67 (35.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a multicenter retrospective analysis of 292 patients who underwent radical cystectomy between 2015 and 2019. The patients were stratified according to mFI scores (mFI 0-1 vs.
Introduction: Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing remains a controversial issue. However, most urological guidelines recommend PSA testing in men aged 55-69 through a shared decision-making process with the patient. The impact of prior cancer diagnosis on PSA testing is not well-known.

The predictive role of 'MUST' among patients undergoing radical cystectomy is unknown. We investigated the role of 'MUST' in predicting postoperative outcomes and prognosis among patients after RC.
