While early gastrostomy tube placement (GTP) may decrease hospital length of stay and facilitate disposition, GTP may be unnecessary as some patients regain the ability to eat earlier than expected. No guidelines currently exist regarding optimal GTP timing or minimum duration of need indicating appropriateness of GTP. This retrospective (9/2017-12/2019) single center study evaluated the incidence of adequate (>75%) oral caloric intake (ACI) after GTP during index hospitalization and associated characteristics before discharge.
