Bictegravir Use During Pregnancy: A Multicenter Retrospective Analysis Evaluating HIV Viral Suppression and Perinatal Outcomes.

This study describes the largest cohort to date (n = 147) of pregnant patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) on bictegravir (BIC). BIC in pregnancy was associated with high levels of viral suppression and perinatal outcomes similar to those in the published literature. These findings support consideration for the use of BIC in managing HIV during pregnancy.

Receiving gestational weight gain recommendations and associated risks: A qualitative study among low-income women.

Appropriate weight gain goals promote healthy gestational weight gain (GWG). Despite receiving recommendations from their providers, most women do not know how much weight they should gain during pregnancy. This study sought to describe the experiences of pregnant women when given GWG recommendations.

Breastfeeding Among People With Human Immunodeficiency Virus in North America: A Multisite Study.

Background: In North American countries, national guidelines have strongly recommended formula over breastmilk for people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) because of concern for HIV transmission. However, data from resource-limited settings suggest the risk is <1% among virally suppressed people. Information regarding breastfeeding experience in high-resource settings is lacking.

The Effect of Vaccine Hesitancy on Racial and Ethnic Minority Children During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has ravaged the world, with numerous cases disproportionally attributed to the United States due to vaccine hesitancy. One vulnerable group that has been affected by vaccine hesitancy is the pediatric population, particularly those in racial and ethnic minority groups. To improve health outcomes and vaccination rates, we must first understand the factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy and its subsequent influence on the pediatric population.

Vitamin D and other environmental risk factors in Colombian patients with multiple sclerosis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the association between MS and vitamin D levels, as well as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) seropositivity and smoking history in a Colombian population.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study between 2017 and 2018. We measured vitamin D levels and EBV antibody titers and administered a questionnaire to assess dietary habits, smoking, second-hand smoking and duration of smoking, sunlight exposure, physical activity, and personal and family history in individuals with and without multiple sclerosis during adolescence.

The effect of training and experience on mass casualty incident triage performance: Evidence from emergency personnel in a high complexity university hospital.

Unlabelled: Mass casualty incident (MCI) can occur at any time and place and health care institutions must be prepared to deal with these incidents. Emergency department staff rarely learn how to triage MCI patients during their medical or nurse degrees, or through on-the-job training. This study aims to evaluate the effect of training and experience on the MCI triage performance of emergency personnel.

Impulsivity traits in patients with multiple sclerosis.

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease with a lifetime prevalence of 4.41/100000 in Bogota, Colombia. It is known that it can be related with neuropsychiatric disorders, increasing by a factor of three the prevalence of depression in MS patients compared to general population.

Seronegative Paraneoplastic Limbic Encephalitis Associated with Thymoma.

Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis is an autoimmune syndrome characterized by the acute or subacute onset of encephalopathy, memory loss, confusion, temporal lobe seizures, and behavioral and mood changes. Although most patients with paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis have antineuronal antibodies, advances in the field now permit the diagnosis without autoantibody test results. In this case illustrating the new diagnostic criteria, we report a 70-year-old woman who was brought to the emergency room after the acute onset of cognitive impairment, altered mental status, and choreoathetoid movements.
