While adrenal androgen production is primarily regulated by ACTH, some data suggest a less common association between hyperprolactinemia and elevated dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S). We describe 2 patients with this underrecognized connection. Patient 1, a 60-year-old male, was incidentally found to have bilateral adrenal masses on computed tomography during evaluation of gastrointestinal complaints.

We share a case of a 38-year-old male with a history of hypertension and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) who was admitted for septic arthritis of the left sacroiliac joint, pyomyositis, and associated methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) bacteremia. The patient presented with left hip pain, fever, tachycardia, and leukocytosis. A physical exam revealed left lateral hip tenderness and limited range of motion.

The organic semiconductor Y6 has been extensively used as an acceptor in organic photovoltaic devices, yielding high efficiencies. Its unique properties include a high refractive index, intrinsic exciton dissociation, and barrierless charge generation in bulk heterojunctions. However, the direct impact of the crystal packing morphology on the photophysics of Y6 has remained elusive, hindering further development of heterojunction and homojunction devices.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a complex, multisystemic disease and is associated with ocular pathology in 4-12% of patients. In general, ocular disease affects Crohn's patients more frequently than those with ulcerative colitis. Episcleritis and uveitis are the most common presentations, with episcleritis often correlating with IBD flares, whereas uveitis presents independently of IBD activity and, in some cases, may even alert clinicians to a new diagnosis of IBD.

Background: The overall survival of patients with advanced thyroid cancers that have progressed following targeted therapies is limited, indicating a strong need for salvage treatments.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients with refractory advanced thyroid cancer treated with pemetrexed-carboplatin (PC) at Mayo Clinic since 2019.

Results: Eleven patients, three with anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC), seven with differentiated or poorly differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), and one with oncocytic carcinoma of the thyroid, were treated with novel salvage PC.

Background: While surgery plays a pivotal role in the management of ileal Crohn's disease, the risk of endoscopic recurrence following an ileocaecal resection can be greater than 65% within 12 months of surgery. More than 90% of patients with Crohn's disease have a concomitant diagnosis of bile acid diarrhea following an ileal resection. This pilot study aimed to assess whether the use of bile acid sequestrants in patients with Crohn's disease who have undergone a primary terminal ileal resection with concomitant bile acid diarrhea can alter the microbiome and prevent disease recurrence.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the gastrointestinal tract with increasing rates of incidence and prevalence across the world. Complex inflammatory and prothrombotic pathophysiology in IBD makes venous thromboembolism (VTE) a common complication with significant morbidity and mortality. This risk is increased in pregnancy.

Purpose: Determine the association between clinical and demographic factors and 30-day readmission risk after pituitary surgery.

Methods: Patients undergoing pituitary surgery between January 2018 and December 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Cases were extracted from a converged electronic health record that included surgeries performed at the Midwest, Southeast, and Southwest campuses of the same healthcare Enterprise.

Timely diagnosis and management of pediatric acute liver failure (PALF) is of paramount importance to improve survival. The Indian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition invited national and international experts to identify and review important management and research questions. These covered the definition, age appropriate stepwise workup for the etiology, non-invasive diagnosis and management of cerebral edema, prognostic scores, criteria for listing for liver transplantation (LT) and bridging therapies in PALF.

Congenital portosystemic shunts (CPSS) are a rare type of congenital abnormality. It results from abnormal embryonic development by the fourth week of fetal life. Congenital portosystemic shunts are believed to signify persistent communication between the portal and vitelline venous systems.

The current mainstay treatment modalities for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) include immunomodulators (methotrexate and thiopurines), biologics (antitumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) being the most commonly used) and other monoclonal antibodies such as the anti-integrins and anti-interleukins (IL-12/23). While ideally treatment should be initiated early in the disease process to avoid relapses and complications, the major recurring issue continues to be primary and secondary loss of response, with often 'diminishing returns' in terms of efficacy for the next line of therapies prescribed for patients with IBD. Additional concerns include the long-term risk factors such as malignancy and susceptibility to infections.

Inflammatory bowel disease is a complex and debilitating disease which is known to cause mental burden for patients. Even though few studies look at mental health disease in this cohort of patients, there is growing evidence of a correlation between disease activity and prevalence of mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. In this literature review, the relationship between inflammatory bowel disease and mental health disorders is explored, with an emphasis on recognition, screening and therapeutic options and special considerations for these complex comorbidities.

Organoids have emerged as a promising advancement of the two-dimensional (2D) culture systems to improve studies in organogenesis, drug discovery, precision medicine, and regenerative medicine applications. Organoids can self-organize as three-dimensional (3D) tissues derived from stem cells and patient tissues to resemble organs. This chapter presents growth strategies, molecular screening methods, and emerging issues of the organoid platforms.

Introduction: Bile acid diarrhoea (BAD) is a common disorder that results from an increased loss of primary bile acids and can result in a change in microbiome. The aims of this study were to characterise the microbiome in different cohorts of patients with BAD and to determine if treatment with a bile acid sequestrant, colesevelam, can alter the microbiome and improve microbial diversity.

Materials And Methods: Patients with symptoms of diarrhoea underwent 75-selenium homocholic acid (SeHCAT) testing and were categorised into four cohorts: idiopathic BAD, post-cholecystectomy BAD, post-operative Crohn's disease BAD and SeHCAT negative control group.

One of the main drivers within the field of bottom-up synthetic biology is to develop artificial chemical machines, perhaps even living systems, that have programmable functionality. Numerous toolkits exist to generate giant unilamellar vesicle-based artificial cells. However, methods able to quantitatively measure their molecular constituents upon formation is an underdeveloped area.
