Geogenically, groundwater As contamination predominantly occurs via its mobilization from underground As-rich sediments. In an aquatic ecosystem, As is typically driven by several underlying processes, such as redox transitions, microbially driven reduction of iron (Fe) oxide minerals, and release of associated As.
