Virtual clinics (VCs) have proven to be an effective solution for the increasing strain on Medical Retina (MR) services, although imaging quality issues (IQIs) persist. Our aim was to compare the quality of two ultra-wide-field (UWF) imaging modalities (Optos and Clarus) in real-world MR-VC settings. We conducted a real-world, prospective study.

Telehealth and people with disabilities in the United Kingdom: a scoping review.

Introduction: Telehealth, also sometimes known as telemedicine, is the use of communication technologies to deliver healthcare remotely, has become increasingly vital, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic. While telehealth can improve healthcare access, it may exacerbate inequities for people with disabilities. This scoping review explores the needs, experiences, and difficulties people with disabilities face when accessing telehealth services in the United Kingdom's (UK) National Health Service (NHS).

Real-World Experience of Fluocinolone Acetonide 0.19 mg in the Management of Non-Infectious Uveitis.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the real-world efficacy and safety profile of fluocinolone acetonide (FAc) implants for the treatment of non-infectious uveitis (NIU).

Methods: A retrospective, observational study was conducted at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, involving patients who received FAc 0.19 mg implants (Iluvien®) for NIU.

Cosmetic Contact Lenses in the United Kingdom: Assessment of Online Regulation and Quality of Consumer Health Information.

Objectives: To determine the compliance of online vendors to the UK Opticians Act 1989 Section 27 requirements and safety regulations for cosmetic contact lens (CCL) sales and the quality of online CCL health information.

Methods: The top 50 websites selling CCLs on each three search engines, namely Google, Yahoo, and Bing, were selected. Duplicates were removed, and the remaining websites were systematically analyzed in February 2023.

Real-World Data on Faricimab Switching in Treatment-Refractory Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

Faricimab is a newly approved bispecific antibody for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). Our study aims to evaluate clinical outcomes of faricimab switching in patients with treatment-refractory nAMD; determine parameters that predict these outcomes; and obtain patient subjective experience on this new injection. This is a retrospective case review with clinical and imaging data from a tertiary referral unit (Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, UK), involving patients who were switched to faricimab between 1 January and 1 December 2023.

Topical Anti-Inflammatory Agents for Non-Infectious Uveitis: Current Treatment and Perspectives.

Non-infectious uveitis represents a heterogenous group of immune-mediated ocular diseases, which can be associated with underlying systemic disease. While the initial choice of treatment of non-infectious uveitis depends on a number of factors such as anatomical location and degree of inflammation, topical therapies often remain the initial choice of non-invasive therapy. In this narrative review, we aim to describe the literature on non-infectious uveitis, with specific focus on the current perspective on topical anti-inflammatory therapy.

Retinal migraine was first formally described in 1882. Various terms such as "ocular migraine" and "ophthalmic migraine" have since been used interchangeably in the literature. The lack of a consistent consensus-based definition has led to controversy and potential confusion for clinicians and patients.

Digital Transformation in Ophthalmic Clinical Care During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

COVID-19 has placed unprecedented pressure on health systems globally, whereas simultaneously stimulating unprecedented levels of transformation. Here, we review digital adoption that has taken place during the pandemic to drive improvements in ophthalmic clinical care, with a specific focus on out-of-hospital triage and services, clinical assessment, patient management, and use of electronic health records. We show that although there have been some successes, shortcomings in technology infrastructure prepandemic became only more apparent and consequential as COVID-19 progressed.

Long-term Results of Nd:YAG Goniopuncture on Viscocanalostomy and Phacoviscocanalostomy.

Prcis: Laser goniopuncture (LGP) is an effective outpatient procedure which has been shown to maintain reduced intraocular pressure (IOP) 5 years following initial laser treatment in patients who have had viscocanalostomy (VC) (with or without phacoemulsification).

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the long term (5 y) efficacy of neodymium-doped:yttrium aluminum-garnet LGP to lower IOP following VC or phacoviscocanalostomy (PVC) in patients with glaucoma.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study analyzed patients who underwent LGP following VC±phacoemulsification between 2009 and 2012 at the Stanley Eye Unit in Abergele.

Clinical Characteristics of Patients With Chronic Stevens-Johnson Syndrome Treated at a Major Tertiary Eye Hospital Within the United Kingdom.

The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of the clinical characteristics in chronic Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) patients within the United Kingdom population, their causative factors, treatment profile and prognosis. This retrospective series included 91 patients with chronic SJS treated at Moorfields Eye Hospital (London, United Kingdom). A chart review included visual acuity and presence of clinical findings (including lid abnormalities and ocular surface findings).

Safety of video-based telemedicine compared to in-person triage in emergency ophthalmology during COVID-19.

Background: the need for social distancing midst the COVID-19 pandemic has forced ophthalmologists to innovate with telemedicine. The novel process of triaging emergency ophthalmology patients via videoconsultations should reduce hospital attendances. However, the safety profile of such services were unknown.

The role of extended reality technology in healthcare education: Towards a learner-centred approach.

The use of extended reality (XR) technologies is growing rapidly in a range of industries from gaming to aviation. However, how this technology should be implemented in healthcare education is not well-documented in the literature. Learner-driven implementation of educational technology has previously been shown to be more effective than a technology-driven approach.

Evaluation and management of a spontaneous corneal rupture secondary to pellucid marginal degeneration, using swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography.

We describe a case of bilateral spontaneous corneal perforation secondary to pellucid marginal degeneration and present the associated swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography (SS-ASOCT) findings and management principles used. A 47-year-old woman presented with ocular pain, redness, foreign body sensation and clear discharge in the right eye in 2017 and with very similar symptoms in 2019 in the left eye. Clinically she had a corneal perforation at the inferior cornea with associated loss of anterior chamber volume.

The Electronic Health Record in Ophthalmology: Usability Evaluation Tools for Health Care Professionals.

Introduction: The adoption of the electronic health record (EHR) has grown rapidly in ophthalmology. However, despite its potential advantages, its implementation has often led to dissatisfaction amongst health care professionals (HCP). This can be addressed using a user centred design (UCD) which is based on the philosophy that 'the final product should suit the users, rather than making the users suit the product'.

Idiopathic retinal vasculitis, aneurysms and neuroretinitis (IRVAN): case series of three patients with multimodal imaging.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the clinical presentation, disease progression, treatment and complications of IRVAN.
